Say I want to pick up 10-20 doamins, and more in the future. Do reseller accounts really save me much? I can add domain names via my web host for $10 each. GoDadddy's basic plan is $99 and then I have to pay $7.75 for each new domain? Am I missing something here? Sounds like a big hassle for (maybe) minor savings. Perhaps I am misunderstanding the price structure.
For buying domains I suspect it is not enough to justify the hassle. Hosting them is a far different story.
Don't buy domains from a webhost; it tends to cause nothing but problems if later in life you want to switch hosts (Especially if the host puts themselves as the admin whois contact). Just use GoDaddy or NameCheap themselves with no up front reseller costs. $8 or so a domain name, nothing else.
Thanks all. That's good advice. I never thought about the fact that I should buy domains via an independent source. Especially the whois admin contact.
my advice is using Godaddy bulk registration, it cost you as little as $6.65/name if you register over 100 at one time, and you do not need a resller plan to do that, I hope that helps.
Ya, a reseller account is really only meant for true big bulk purchases, with a minimum of 100 or more domains I would say. You just have to price everything out. If you want 10,000 domains within the next year, and the reseller plan is cheaper, then go with the reseller plan, but if it is cheaper to buy them normally, then do that. All the prices are listed right on the site, so just take out a calculator and do some nice old math! Tom
