Do registrars steal peoples domain ideas???

I am just wondering after a couple of times i have been researching whether or not a domain name has been taken or thinking of new domain names that i think to be of value i then some times contemplate buying them for a day or two. In which time they are registired.

Is it possible that registrars sometimes steal the names people have come up with and register the names them selves.

Is this something that is well known or well thought of, or am i being stupid?

It happened to me again today with the 99 cent .info domains i was contemplating buying one then my girlfriend came round so i thought hey i shall register it later and about 5 hours later it was gone.

The morale of this story is buy straight away!

    Will.

GD doesn't front run like that. Nor do WWD sellers.

Only use a trusted service to search and buy domains, lots of places will steal ideas. all it takes is a form.

All Domain registrars do that. See what they
    1. Register a domain a user searches for.
    2. Run ads on the domain.
    3. If they get enough traffic in the next 5 days, they keep the domain.
    4. If they don't get traffic, they just delete the domain within five days without paying anything.

It's possible that it happens with some smaller sites -- but I would hope (and think) that large registars such as Godaddy and Dynadot have way to many searches going on per day for them to possible go through and look at the query records. Some of the smaller sites and "suggestion" services may record domains and look into them.

It's a pretty shady thing to do, which is why I never really search for domains on a registrar, I use whois from command line on my server and see if its registered that way.

Find one of the domain research tools that allows you to use wildcards and partial names.

For example if you really wanted to research ilovethisdomainandwanttobuyit.com, you would only have to enter ilovethis%.com or whatever wildcard the system the tool uses. That way you make the scumbags have to work much harder and it will be unlikely that they will snag what you are really looking for. I search with the smallest amount of characters needed to get the results to a manageable size but not so many as to leave little doubt what I am looking for.

I use GD and my own site to see if names are available. Nither I nor GD front-run. If I check today, the name is going to be there days from now. Sometimes, even weeks. I have sampled a name off and on for months before regging.

Why would you want to do that, even if you think others are??? It's unethical and silly.
