I wrote an article on reciprocal linking. Let me know what you think. It is short but shows how, where and why to reciprocate(at least I think it does ) If you have ever wondered if linking your sites together can get you banned read this article. If you have questions post comments or post here. Reciprocal linking... how and when does it have value? Thanks for your comments!
There is a link exchange service that let you have your link on your link partner's content page (not a typical link directory page). You can select which page you want your link to be listed also. It's been around but people don't know this kind of value, so the site hasn't grown much.
Don't underestimate the value of manual labor. A program may appear to be saving you time but be perfectly sure it is.
Thanks. Very informative & makes sense. What if the link is placed on a "not so relevant page" of another site (ie homepage or high ranking page), does it have some value?
I'm afraid of that because i've heard its very easy to track down...and its an obvious attempt to ffol the search engines so there will eventually come the day when they block it and possibly penalize you for trying to be sneaky...just my theory
The more relevant a page the more value it passes. If the content is semi-related it will definitely still pass value and even if it is un-related it will probably pass some value however this value will not be as great as if it was related. I wouldn't. Its a detour, short-cut a easy-way-out. They fail in the end. I don't have much faith in 3-way-link-exchanges especially automated ones.
Well, I didn't say automated one. Google may find 3 way linking if it's done so obviously. But it's simply better than 2 links exchanged.
good article, an example of getting good one way backlinks is adding your link in your comment relevant blog post mk
Google will never penalize you for receiving recip/three way links. The worst they could do is not give you as much/any credit for the link. As otherwise people could link to your link to get you penalised etc.
Most blogs have nofollow blog comment urls so that wouldn't pass value. It can produce traffic and raise your authority as a individual however. Wrong. Google will never penalize you for a link to your site however if you link out you can get penalized. Your not responsible for people linking to you but you are responsible for who you link to so link exchanges would be included here and reciprocating with a bad neighborhood can get you penalized.
