Do proxy sites use alot of resources? I currently have a glype php proxy setup and I had it no longer than a week and my host is complaining. Telling me I got decent traffic already and eventfully wants me to move it to a vps..

Yes, proxies use huge amounts of bandwidth as well as CPU. Your host is probably complaining about the bandwidth usage. I have a dozen proxies spread across different servers due to this.

You are lucky to find a shared host that allows you to run it. Resource starvation is the principle gripe hosts have with proxies, not bandwidth. Eventually you'll need to move to a VPS or dedi.

Proxies use up a lot of the server resources and simply shouldn't be used in shared hosting environments.

Even some VPS providers restrict the usage of proxies to intranets, not Internet traffic due to the high-bandwidth, high-resources consumpiton.

Go for a dedicated server if you want to build a solid proxy site.

Well, proxy hosting is a different niche and either go with specialized proxy hosts or a dedicated box if you can afford. Lots of system resources and bandwidth usage needed by proxies.

    In brief yes.

so just make sure you go with a hosting that allows proxy sites and they won't complain

Proxies can cause a huge load on CPU, RAM & Apache. I'm surprised you found shared hosting for the proxy site. You will absolutely need to go with a VPS or Dedicated server eventually.
