Not talking about buying these links. Does it help a new site to link from a MySpace profile 'PR4'? Why, do you think so? (Have you personally done it with good, or bad, results?) Thanks
I have a myspace site that is PR4 and indexed by Google and I noticed that it is included as a backlink in Yahoo yesterday. It would be hard to tell how much it helps unless you had many links from myspace sites. I guess one could link using a really obscure anchor text a bunch of times to a site and see if it gets a ranking...hmm... maybe i'll try something like that. I would think it should help because the backlinks to this myspace site are not just from other myspace sites so they are real backlinks and should count as a vote just like any other site.
I have a friend who has a blog, and a MySpace group to go along with it. One day I checked G for his main (very competitive) term, and the MySpace group was in the #8 spot. It seems that the only links to it were from MySpace profiles and maybe some from his blog. An hour later, it was gone. It must have been just that data center, maybe an engineer was messing around. The point is that they definitely count for something, and actually have the potential to carry authority, even if that was a fluke.
Is there any authoritative info on the value of a large number of links? Is there a point of diminishing returns?
I was thinking along the lines of just a few links, if it would help at all for PR. Knowing the answer to your ?'s would be nice, also.
I was talking about links from MySpace profiles, hosted on MySpace.com. Why not start your own myspace sites, everyone else is?
