Do People Still Use Forums for Link Building?

Do people really join forums anymore to build links by posting and leaving a signature link? I know it is used for promotion by people clicking on the link but is the link value really that worth it? The reason I am asking is that I have a PR3 technology and webmaster forum but I can't seem to get anyone to join and post.

 

It is still done, but honestly my cut off is a PR 4 forum.

I also would hesitate to join a forum where there wasn't an already established community there.

You're going to need to both build the PR of the site as well as perhaps adding some content yourself, just to give people something to talk about.

I think forums are good when there's all ready an established base of users there, they aren't too strict and they have a lot of posts going on daily.

I don't like to post on dead forums even if it is just for link building. Also good note on the PR 4, that's about where I would start looking as well

 

I still use it. Back in the day - Google really respected sig links, but not that much anymore. However, on Yahoo, I can move my sites up on the first page.

 

There was an experiment on DP where someone was trying to get their website indexed purely with DP sig links. They really struggled. In the end (after quite a few weeks IIRC) they gave up and tried a normal method. It was indexed quickly after that. I wish I had a link for the thread. The conclusion was forum sigs aren't that highly rated by Google anymore, but they can't hurt!

 

I've done it too, but if your not willing to put time into the community you'll look like a troll and the fickle community sniff you out to be a rat and turn on you... It happens all the time...

 

I wouldnt go for forum posting for only link building since it takes too long times to see the result, blog commenting is much better than forum posting.
However, i will still join those quality forum to learn and share, and the forum signature is just a "bonus" for me

 

I use forums to learn and share as well. Getting links and direct traffic is just an added bonus

 

Yeah people still use forum signatures but they should have at least pr 4 or 5 to get moderate visitors.

This is John, new in digital point forum. I think good place to share knowlegege among people. For link purpose is not bad also.

 

I think most people come to the forums to learn about stuff, just like me... This is my first post but have been reading alot.

If no, there is no signature link on BST.
It is good way because it can drive traffic also making links
