    Hello Guys,

    I was searching a domain name,easy to remember,catchy,and short..
But i have seen that many popular domain names are very costly as premium labeled.

    Example - sport.com ..play.com etc...

Price was around $1000-$10,000 ( i seen such type of prices)

Anyone pay such type of amount for a popular domain name?

Normally no, premium names can be acquired for cheap under a different TLD.

Some bought them in hopes they could develop something out of them (Which is a silly thing. You don't buy domain names before you have a solid business plan for them). Or they did have something going but it never really came to full fruition. Personally, I'd stay away from buying "premium" domains as they may have some unsavory history behind them. Always check.

Of course they buy - those who can afford it and need it. Check NameBio.com and you will see what sells and at what prices; for example, here are last month sales above 1000$: namebio.com/?s==kDMyQTMzUjM , and in this blog you can read nice analyses of some sales: https://domainnamewire.com/category/domain-sales/

Yes, they do. I personally know some people who paid over a thousand dollars for premium domains.
I don't get it though, unless the domain is their exact brand match and the brand is very popular. Then it makes sense to acquire a dot com domain for that brand, otherwise you can easily add a small word with brandname and get a normal priced domain with your brand name in it.

Like I wanted BullFnO, but that was not available, so I went for BullFO.com instead.

Of course, but I think less than earlier. As in the last couple of years, we got tons of new extensions, so getting a great domain name for your brand/business got much easier and affordable.

For sure, premium domains are premium for a reasons.

But don't get duped by lame second level extensions.

Money.com is not the same as money.site.

Yes, I have purchased a few for projects that fit. I have never paid more than 2k for one though.

I don't prioritize it but instead go with variations of the name and let my branding efforts make up for it.

I doubt many people on this board would be the type to buy domains like that. Big companies for sure, its almost an asset at that point. Not so much for the small guys.
