Do people even pay for basic HTML anymore?

I used to be really into HTML back in highschool. Now that I'm back into being interested in web-design, I've more than noticed how outdated it's become. Do people even pay people for HTML help anymore?

I think you are seeing lots of other languages being added or revived or back in vogue.

Personally, I don't see good HTML skills going away in our lifetimes. It still has its uses, although many sites are now built using other development platforms. People will continue to need what you have learned and know, although some would like you to believe there is no use for HTML.

I've watched languages for site building and programming for over a couple of decades and it sometimes seems to be like a fashion show. It will be whatever is in vogue at the time you are building sites. I've seen lots of people have heated arguments over what's best. I just stick to what I know well or is easily implemented. If it works for me, I use it. Incidentally, I still use a lot of HTML, along with the other stuff I know you're seeing and probably using yourself.

I don't paint myself into a corner and say never. It doesn't matter whether it's WordPress, Joomla, PHP. All have their place and things that they are good at. All also have Achilles heels too. Nothing is perfect and that's why HTML is still going to be around.

Yup, there are people who need basic HTML development around.

You can learn CSS too, and become a full-time designer, as HTML + CSS has lot of scope now. Because they are the fastest loading pages (without flash, js and other 'visual' enhancements).

A clever CSS programmer can code most of the functionalities of JS.

HTML is the basic foundation of a webpage. All other languages just enhance it.

Yes, they do. But most people use WYSIWYG tools because it means they can build and continually maintain their sites themselves. And its' cheaper than paying a webdesigner. In fact most webdesigners use WYSIWYG tools nowadays as well.

It's still popular in the form of PSD to CSS and XHTML designing... there's a lot of people that still want that, and recently I've been working on sites for local businesses who just wanted a HTML website with a few javascript bits in there too

I don't know ANY web designers or developers that use WYSIWYG tools and wouldn't hire anyone who did.

I know lots of people who want templates designed, or simple business-card-style websites. There's always a market for HTML design work.

Using WYSIWYG tools isn't a bad thing - I know lots of good designers who use Dreamweaver. It's important to know how to do it yourself, and personally I spend more time in code view than design view, but just because you like the extra features (syntax highlighting, sitewide search and replace, for example), I wouldn't write someone off as less knowledgeable, or lazy.

HTML and CSS are the foundation skills to every web developer. They are still needed.
Some quick/small sites are mainly pure HTML and CSS, but just using some php to handle includes for headers, footers and navigation.

Not really. Basic HTML scripts and HTML help can be found all over the internet. There are thousands of people on the internet that know HTML and are willing to help for free.

Making whole HTML and CSS websites is an other story.

    Yes.
People even pay for a wordpress instalation with 10$, which takes 2 minutes and works like a standard software installation

sure, I paied for basic html page last month, but the one is great CSS design and include all the images what I need. Actually I need the design not the html page. If just simple html page, I can do it by myself or download some free template.

Can anyone help me please. PM me if you can help or reply here I only know how to us HTML but not CSS or PHP. Building website is complicated for me. I am still learning.

I would like to build an offline webpage which I have to be the only person who can access the page. So may be dont make it online yet Just create it from dreamweaver cs5 or whatever to use on my pc only. because I will use it myself.

The offline website I want is pages to fill in ebay listing details. Then pick one ebay template (I have many ebay templates I made myself. But they are all in HTML) and click submit. Then it will go to next page showing a sample of the ebay listing with details given ealier in chosen template. Also HTML of that completed ebay listing will be given and ready to be copied to use on eBay to list my item.

I can give more details below

There will be 3 pages. .

1st page: The form for me to fill ebay item details in e.g. Item name, description, upload item pictures, upload logo, payment details, shipping details....

2nd page: when I click submit on first page it will go to this page. This page will be a list of 100 ebay templates to be chosen ( each will have small template picture beside and a small tick box).
When I tick one of the box on any template and click submit, it will go to 3rd page.

3rd page: A page shown a big sample of completed ebay listing of provided details and chosen templated on the 1st and 2nd page. Also a box with HTML code of this ebay template which is ready to be copied and use in eBay.

The most important thing is the picture gallery.
please see the picture below for sample. I prefer it this style.
    img685.imageshack.us/img685/2881/picgalsample.jpg

If I upload 4 pictures on first page, the outcome will be as shown in the sample picture above.
    1. each picture I uploaded will generate 2 output pictures (70x70 pixel and 300x300 pixel). So it might need to link with any website to modify the picture size.
    2. on the output listing, when you move mouse over small picture, it will show 300x300 pixel picture of that small picture.(from the sample pictures above, the small pictures lie vertically on the right and the big one is show on the left side)

and That's all. Let me know if anyone can help. Thank you very much.
