Since everything can be found via Google and web directories are dime a dozen, do people really still use web directories to find websites? Other than being able to serve as a backlink for websites, I see no other purpose for them..
Directories really are only used for backlinks, only webmasters use directories and the rest use search engines, Google in particular.
Yea its mainly for backlinks and thats it. IF someone still uses one to actually find stuff they are an idiot lol. Because google will find you everything and anything you ask it
I don't think that I have ever used a link directory to find a site. Only webmasters seem to use it for SEO purposes. What can bring some traffic in are for example some business directories which are attached to popular websites. (for example destination travel sites)
I think web directories are still popular among the general internet users, I think the most popular directories will get the most traffic, when someone does a search at google sometimes there are subpages from certain directories that rank well for popular search terms. I think these directories get lots of traffic because of their placement in the serp.
Directories send out alot of traffic... if they are done right! And they are used daily just think of all the large directories out there, BT , 118 local and trade directories there is 1000s. No offesne but if you use google for every thing your a idiot
Its looking like google have cut the use of backlinks or something is not working with it. I wonder how long the directories will last?
i really pitty any one that finds all the imformation they need on google. phone directorys are the biggest looked up world wide.
I use directories now and then to find lists of multiple, specific sites. For example big boards to find huge forums I can send my spam bots to, or transvestite midget websites i can.... block... manually... one by one...
Niche directories like mightyb mentioned are very useful. Nobody uses general directories. Thats what your thread should have stated. You should have posted in the directories forum too.
