Hi I have been researching home page links for some time, and while a one month link will offer some well received exposure, should you be looking longer term? Ask yourself this simple question :- Have you ever looked at a site, saw a home page link and ignored it, then visited again and realised it was still there. After a few visits you start to "trust" the link because its always there - you begin to become curious and finally you visit the site.......ring any bells? This is the beauty of long term exposure.....
Home page links are really great way to promote sites and get backlinks. I´m opened for it at www.1stwebdesign.sk /featured links at the bottom of the page/
Depends on what you're after. Are you looking for traffic, or are you looking for rankings? (to heck with 'indexing' - why anyone even bothers mentioning that is beyond me) If you're after the traffic ONLY, then a month isn't bad. In fact.... a month is probably the best way to go. I have a site where I got a killer home page link for three months. The first month, I was able to get quite a few visitors, then after that.... everything just kind of petered out. It only makes sense, as the visitors kept coming back and remembering that they had already checked out my site. Also, keep in mind that this link very VERY dominant on the page. Thus, you may not see the same thing I had, if you were getting a small text link. Testing would have to be done...... If you're looking for rankings, then you gotta look long term. Nothing less than six months... but thats just my theory. The longer the link sits, the more weight its going to hold. Furthermore, with just one single month, the link won't be worth anything. Google knows that links come and go. People change things around all the time. So when they find a link, it's more like 'Meh... I'll just keep an eye on that, and if it's still around in a while, I'll give it some juice' Hope that helps
If you dont care to use deep links to get better and quicker indexing thats up to you, but I prefer to link to pages that are 4 levels deep to get sites moving.
Ok, so there is that one single possibility that your site may need some help getting indexed.... if your site has thousands upon thousands of product pages. If it's anything BUT that, then it's just plain poor site design, by structure. Poor indexing = inept webmaster
Why not just start linkbaiting. Its free and gets you permanent links. A 1 month link will only help you for 1 month so its not much good.
I use my PR4 site home page with a themed link to get my new sites indexed by G in a couple of days. Useful tool and makes the clients really happy
One month is too short. It does not even span a PR update cycle. It will not give any PR benefit, but it is good for advertisement like a 20 sec spot on TV.
