On December 18, 2005 I purchased my first Domain Name with Yahoo Small Business for the period of three years, and on January 26, 2006 second for period of one year. A week ago someone accessed my Yahoo Small Business Account Yahoo and deactivate both of the Domains. Since that person or system changed my password at the time, I reset the password and saw the Horror. I called Yahoo several times, and tried to resolve this problem over their online trouble system that in most cases takes several days in the order to get any answers. Yahoo told me that this is not their fault, it is me who should be more careful, and that Domains are deactivated and they are no longer in the system. I also contacted Melbourne IT, Yahoo Domain Name Provider, they said this is a Yahoo problem not theirs. A week ago I initiate Domains Transfer from Yahoo to RegisterFly.com but they reject that too. At this very moment I have to change my DNS Servers, because I just purchased Dedicate Server for my future Business, however I do not have the access to my Domains. Yahoo is trying to force me into buying extra service that I do not need in the order to get these Domain working again, and I refuse to pay them. As far as their Web Hosting goes, STAY AWAY if you have larger Web Site, because they simple do not work. I tried all of the Packages from Starter to Professional and all the way up to Yahoo Merchant Professional. Every time when I had some kind of problem Yahoo explaines that the problem is not with them it's you sir. If you have a Site that runs on PHP, please save your money, nerves and time, do not use Yahoo. Yahoo Telephone "Support" is in right the way, no waiting, "Support" by people that first of all is very hard to understand and second, and Support by the people that puts you on hold every time when you have a question, and when they could not answer for it. But even when you find good English speaking person, they will tell you that Yahoo is aware of the problem, and that problem will be resloved in next 24 hours. IN ONE WORD THEY HAVE NO CLUE OF ANYTHING THAT YOU SAID. Yes, it is great price for Domains and pray to Lord that you don't have any kind of problems with them. Once again Do Not Use Yahoo Domain or Hosting Services, if there is a problem do not go thru Yahoo, report them to InterNIC which will forward your Complaint to IANA, and to Yahoo as well. I will keep you updated, Regards, Emil
Well, yeah it happened to many people out there. My friend was the one of them but he could not do anything besides register a new domain name
Yes, I had the same problem. Going back and forth with Yahoo and Melborne trying to get control of my domain name.
Good Luck, you have to get some type of authorization number from yahoo and provide that to melborne in order to do it.
i have heard many complaints about yahoo domains we may fall to the price but there are many hackers who easilt hack yahoo email ids.
Spread the word more aggrisevly so the more people see this and make yahoo scare in their pants, because this suck. So far, GoDaddy was the best for me :>
Well ok if i decide to go away from yahoo which registrar should i choose, i have on domain with namecheap and its working ok so far. So where to go from yahoo?
Yahoo web hosting is my 1st web hosting provider. I am with better ones now. One of the biggest mistakes that I have done online when making money is choosing to go with Yahoo for my web hosting. I was paying $8 or so per month which was more expensive than other web hosting providers and I couldn't even have a mysql database or use php for what I can remember. I didn't even know what these were at the time so I just didn't bother learning them. If I had them on my web hosting then I would have wondered what they were and found out and then started learning php. Because I was with Yahoo, I had made my pages using html where they were just pure html for about nearly 2 years. Since learning php I have quickly grown my sites and can keep them updated on a regular basis quite easily. How I see it is if you were paying $8 per month, then you may as wells pay a little more and just get a dedicated server. I am paying around $274 a month for my dedicated server. I have had minor problems here and there only mainly because of me. When something does happen and I can't fix it then I get into contact with them and they sort it out while I am on the phone. This is very good customer service as I am a business and I need things to be sorted out straight away, if not then money is lossed and my visitors would get annoyed.
Wow, I had no idea Yahoo! was this bad for webmasters! Guess I'm glad I chose not to go with them five years ago.
I have heard from others that is it easy to move domains from yahoo to another registrar like namecheap. If you have domains with yahoo, move them. Way back in the mists of time, I had a hosting account with yahoo, and my site spent more time not accessible to anyone than up. Ever need good hosting, just PM me.
I had no problems with my site being down, once I cancelled my account with them and changed web hosts I had to phone them to find out how I could get hold of my domain. They were quite good at this, it was a quick process. As my sites are for business purposes, I thought that it would be quicker giving them a phone call rather than emailing them as I would be the one loosing out waiting for the email not them. They would loose nothing as they were loosing me as a customer no matter what. Also their stats were not all that good compared to some of the stats that I use now.
Yahoo has seized a bunch of my domains because I have some which I dont want to renew , they locked me out and thats that... But I got a suprise for them.... wont say!!! Anyone who has been screwed over by Yahoo please get in contact with me please via PM , I have a very well known internet law lawyer who is looking into taking the case. On top of all this , they have overdrafted my back acount twice now in the sum of fees and charges of over 7000 dollars, Yahoo's actions are criminal and that comes from the Bank Presidents own mouth. So if you have a legitimate claim against Yahoo, let me know and we might add your case to the class action suit No Promises
Sounds like some people really have problems with them. I have not really had any problem with them, I just wish that I done a little more research and new a little more about web hosting before I jumped in and signed up to Yahoo as I realised about 1 year later that there were better web hosts online that offered much more for the money and then I was worried about changing web hosts just because I didn't want my site to go down as I had no clue on how to change my web hosting provider and domain name over to another web host. That is why my domain is still on the same registrar as what Yahoo first purchased it on. This is because I was worried about changing it over to a different domain registrar because I didn't know how to, but I now know and I am now waiting for the time to transfer it over as I had re-registered it for 5 years with that registrar a few years ago and I don't want to move it until the renewal date comes near.
Most people dont relize that if you buy a domain with yahoo - they own it - you cant sell it and they can take it from you at anytime - look at their TOS But they are guilty of false advertising , they place ads up everywhere - "Buy Domains" - but they sell you nothing - they lease it to you - so they violate the truth in advertising laws! Anyone else got problems with Yahoo let me know!
I am very lucky then that I managed to changed the whois details of my domain then at Yahoo's registrar so that it is now in my name and I also have it on a piece of paper aswell in writing. If they had kept my domain, then It would have really done me in as I had got all of my traffic, done alot of SEO and other advertising and designed all of my site and then moved to another web host. If they didn't allow me to have my domain then I would had have to practically start from the begining. I am just glad that I managed to get it. I hope that everybody else get's their domains and things as I know how hard it is to loose a domain name once you have put all of the work into your sites.
