Is it true? I don't think so. As they have mentioned their privacy statement, how could they check our mails? But if it is true I will not use Gmail for any SEO purpose.
Do not use Gmail for creating accounts anywhere.If Google shows you ads in Gmail doesn't mean that Google employees are reading your emails.I have a gmail account but I do not use it for any business related activities.And do not use Gmail in affiliate marketing in any regard.
Why do you think the ads in your email are targeted? Why do you think adsense shows both ads related to the site and to your browsing habbits? that has always bothered me.

This is all new to me, as i usually use the gmail account for all my blogs, i never faced any such problems you mentioned in the list of reasons for not to use the gmail account. i think google will not read our personal emails, but it is my personal opinion, people may disagree with me.... But i am satisfied with gmail account. It is very fast and much better than yahoo or msn....
hahahaha I got neg repped and called mr. tinfoil hat. Do tell me who you are, I'd love to know. People don't need to read the emails just like people don't need to connect you to your searches. This isn't the early 1900s with people on switchboards connecting you to the person you're calling. All they need are algorithms to search for certain key phrases and then they can do manual review. Do you have any idea how many people Google has to manually review sites? Do you really think no one reviews emails? Have you asked anyone that works at Google these questions before stating it's fallacy? Apparently I've made a lot of people nervous in using their Gmail accounts Good.
