Do NOT use 123-REG.CO.UK ...... EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was billed £40 for someones else's domain hosting, who happened to have the same name as me. I contacted customer services for a refund and was told the hosting was in my name (even though it was completely a different username and address) and that i should cancel the hosting package by calling an expensive telephone number. NO refund was offered even though the hosting package is nothing to do with me. Also once you store your credit card details in your account, it is impossible to remove them, hence they can continue to bill you for services without warning. So what i did is let my credit card details expire - this didnt stop them, they simply took the money out of my Paypal account without warning, which i presume is illegal. STAY AWAY FROM 123-REG AND USE GODADDY.(not to be confused with 123reg whom i presume are much better).

Can't you just dispute the charge with paypal? Also they are a UK company so you can contact trading standards in Uxbridge if they have ripped you off.

If they have used your credit card for the charge, the credit card company is obliged to refund you the money and then recover that sum from the vendor who has made an unauthorised use of your card.

If, however, it's a debit card, you have some difficulty there. However, PayPal will refund your money if you raise a dispute and if you don't hear from the vendor within 24 hourse, escalate the issue and you will, in due course, receive a refund from PayPal. At least, that has been my experience. Your reason for the refund is that you did not authorise the purchase and have not received the service.

They are shockers, IMHO. Same thing happened to me. Fortunately, if you chargeback, they don't seem to bother fighting it usually, so you'll get refunded by the CC co, and 123 will get billed a surcharge. Takes a while, of course. Worst company I've ever used. Just my opinion, of course.

    Hi

I work on behalf of 123-reg.

Our billing system is certainly not set to charge someone just because they have the same name as another account holder, this would not make sense. We would only take payment for domains and services that have been setup by yourself.

So I can look into your issue further please direct message me with the domain that was with 123-reg and the support ticket reference number.

    Regards,

    Ricky

It's a big company, although I never dealt with them for domain registration.

so far as i know that UK is very strict in their cyberlaw... so 123reg.co.uk must have fulfilled their standart.. but thanks for the sharing anyway, i'll be more careful..
