Hi Is it really hard to do SEO for a site that is done in Flash? If not, how please explain because some of my associates are suggesting not to take any SEO project which is done in Flash.

If you can be able to build quality backlinks you may go with such project however I would suggest to avoid 100% flash site.
Flash is getting easier to SEO by the day. ALWAYS embed flash using SWFObject, this allows you to put equivalent HTML content behind your site. It's actually a legal requirement in Europe because of accessiblity for disabled persons. Flash sites can be made to rank very well with a good linking strategy. Search on Google for the term "architects" and you'll see how many of the top ranking sites on the first 10 pages are 100% Flash. There are also utiltites to allow deep-linking into Flash movies out there. That said, it is easier to SEO HTML sites for sure, and I'm not a fan of Flash, I much prefer sites in HTML. Flash promotes "bells and whistles" web design and not content. For me, the internet should be about content, not animations... Also it's good to call any text into the flash movie from XML documents that can be read by SE Spiders.
when using xml in flash you can make it readable by g and still rank nicely but it is a pain though..
Flash is STILL the suck for SEO. Yes... Adobe gave the major engines specs the big "Crackerjack Decoder Ring" for how to read Flash binaries. But Google and the other engines have been using their own home grown programs to dig through Flash binaries looking for text to index for years. They will just be able to do it a little better now. But this is NOT going to make Flash sites rank significantly better than they did in the past. if you want a site to be found in the search engines, I suggest you NOT write it in flash. I heard Matt Cutts say in person at Pubcon (Nov '08) that an HTML web site that looks EXACTLY like a Flash site will ALWAYS outrank the Flash site. That statement alone is a BIG red flag to NEVER build a site in Flahs. The search engines have been indexing HTML for over a decade now. Matt said it will be at LEAST another decade before Flash even ranks moderately well. Their indexes, their indexing algorithm, their ranking algorithms, their tools and utilities, etc. have ALL been built based on the concept that they index HTML. That is not likely to change any time soon. They are going to have to entirely redesign their search engine infrastructure for Flash to be a viable web development technology for ranking at the search engines. Flash has a LOT of problems when it comes to ranking in the search engines that will NOT be solved anytime soon. Think about it... The search engines have all been built to rank URLs... not web pages... not sites... They all rank URLs. And... ummm... a site written in Flash typically gets ranked under a single URL - its home page. So you get 1 <title> for your entire site. You don't even get an <h1>, <h2>,... Even if they provide a way to embed <h1> and <h2> elements in the Flash, they are still going to be tied to a single URL. Whoopty do... they can read the content of all of your pages now because they know how to read Adobe files. Worthless IMO. Imagine taking a 30 page web site and copying all of the content of the 30 pages into your home. Do you REALLY think a home page that has text on it targeting 30 different topics is going to rank well for any of them? No. There is one and only one way to make a Flash site rank well... You are 110% dependent on inbound links... You might as well have an SWF that displays a single blank page when dealing with Flash. IF you could care less about your site being found in the search engines and everyone who you want to visit your site is going to know the exact URL (i.e. won't need to find it in the search engines) then by all means, use Flash. If you care about having your site rank... forget Flash.
No...it's not hard to do flash SEO now google can index flash page....in flash seo you can more target on link building with quality work.
I think you are right, the backlinks can create relavence for google and that way it wil be beneficial to the site.
These days, it is not too hard to get ranked for flash website until you know the best methods for flash optimization. You can also get coded your flash image for G' purpose and also can go for other off page factors like sound link building and social networking as well.
