Do Not Submit To Directories!

Now this is the new trend throughout the seo forums as well as some of the other webmaster forums. Now I submitted manually to thousands trying to get the backlinks and still belive dmoz gives off good link juice yet there are many that disagree. Is there anyone here that believes this is true that submitting to directories actually hurts your chances on google or any other search engine. Anyway I would like to hear about your experiances with directories good and bad.

I think if you submit to low quality directories that are just considered linkfarms by google's standards then you are hurting your website's authority. But if you submit to quality directories then it is a plus for you site.

Keep submitting don't worry what people say, if it was so bad, then you could just submit your competitors site and make him lose his Ranking.

So how do we differentiate between high quality and low quality directories? Just search in google and see if the directory is de-indexed? I think most directories have some PR and rather good Alexa rank, they would not do much harm. On the other hand, even if you submit to a bidding directory, shouldn't the penalty be on the directory site rather than those who bid for a listing?

    LOL, you're a genius :)

Anyway, IMHO directory submission does more good than harm. Google and other search engines cannot ignore your site when you have over a few hundred links. However, the concern about your site gaining unnatural links over a period of time is real and present. What do you think about this?

Well I once had this good site so I submitted it to 1,000 directories per month for a year along with other promoting.

Now it is top dog for tons of keywords that are SUPER competitive.

I agree, you can't really tell the difference between good and bad directories. But to start I would only submit to directories with a valid pr.

And i wished the penalty was only on the directory site but that doesn't always seem to be the case.

Overall if submit to many directories it probablly does more good than harm.

Submitting to any directory (goo or bad) can't do any harm to your site.

P.S. If you care so much about google, then check out the (google)PageRank for directories you submit your link to.I recommend you to start your submissions from PR0, this is a sign Google knows about that site, so this way you know the site is not banned or seen as a harmful site to google.

    Peace !
