Just to let you know there is alot of websites out there that will submit your site to thousands of directories and search engines this is bad and google looks down on it. It is the same think as using a link farm to get your link on thousands of websites. If you want to climb on the SERPs manual directory submission is the way to go as well as social bookmarking, press releases, link exchange (to releveant sites of course), forum posting, blog commenting, article marketing, and other social sites IE twitter, myspace, facebook and even some of the newer ones are good. If this post helped you please leave good reputation thanks.
What if someone submits you to a directory? I mean it's just like someone using PRStorm aganist your site, google shouldn't penilise you for something your competitors can do aganst you.
If your competitors do submit you to link farms ffa link sites and so on google will penalize you. That is why you need to go through your backlinks to make sure they are from legit sites. If they are not then contact site owner and ask them to take your link off.
What is Google's definition of a link farm, exactly? I've heard people call poorly-done free directory sites "link farms" but I'm not sure about that.
