Hi, I just have a quick domain query that I wouldn't mind help with. I have a domain from a while ago that I created new nameservers on so these nameservers were ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com , now the domain is expiring and I wonder if anybody could tell me whether I am going to lose the nameservers along with the domain. I have a few other domains on these nameservers and don't want to mess around but I pretty much have to let the domain expire. I can I create a new set of nameservers whilst the others are still working and move my other domains accross onto new nameservers ??? Thanks in advance, Mike.
any subdomains you have are inexorably tied to the domain name, including subdomains. If you let mydomain.com expire, you also lose anything.mydomain.com
My tech usually deals with this stuff, but it sounds to me that you'd be better off paying $9 to renew the domain name. Brandon
Mike, when your domain expires, the registrar will stop answering routing requests for it. This includes for the private NameServers that you created, so any sites still using those NameServers will suddenly appear to have dropped off the face of the earth for visitors. You can create new NameServers under another domain and transfer all of your other sites to these, just keep in mind that there may be some minor downtime as the changes resolve across ISP's.
