I have over 160 backlinks (according to Yahoo) and a Page Rank of 2, is there a certain number of backlinks I need to reach to get to PR 3?
If I have understood correctly, if you get more backlinks from high-pr sites, then your site is getting more PR
It has to do with a number as well as the PR and relevancy of the website linking back to you. So if you get 10,000 unreleated sites without PR it would be the same as getting a couple PR 9 backlinks from very relevant websites. Also from what I have been reading the more acedemic the links the better as well such as wikis and .edu links help.
google only update backlinks once in every 3 months on average. what kind of PR you have depends on the PR of the sites linking back to you. higher the PR of the sites linking back to you, higher PR your site gets. i however would not suggest you to get too much focused on PR as it doesn't have any direct co-relation with SERP ranking and traffic. focus on getting ranked higher and PR will come over time by itself
wrong google updates PR all troughput the day and everyday - the only difference the Public EXPORT is only every few months Not getting all focused on PR might be true to some extent but high pr and relevancy means it is an authority site which has a relevant link to your site which means it will be still of great value and thus PR can be an indicator for authority with many other factors though...and these other factors are in fact SERp affecting meaning indirectly it does add to serp increase yet it does not have a direct positive coefficient that is significant between PR and SERp gain yet the underlying factors certainly do.. And since PR is mainly looked upon by relatively new or people who dont know much about in-depth seo in high regard, It will help you in your linkbuilding efforts as others will be more willing to link to you and more people will want a link from you which could posssibly make your site more attractive as well as for sale and flipping people look at PR and it can be used as a selling point so PR sculpting can be interesting nonetheless of the
Quality backlinks boost your PageRank and your position in search engines, paving the way for increased targeted traffic. Search engines depend on links for search rankings, so the constant introduction of new links is key to your success. Google and the other search engines need to know that your site is relevant; building relevant backlinks is a critical part of this. As your article is posted on more and more sites, those links tell the search engines that your site is popular. There just isn't an easier way to get improved search engine placement, more relevant one-way links, and tons of qualified traffic to your site than by providing website owners with the unique quality content they need to attract more visitors. A small investment now, will pay huge dividends in the future.
You should make relevant links. Install google toolbar and put on Page Rank. So you can determine PR of the pages. If even main page of some site has large PR it does't mean inner pages have large PR too. As a rule Google rejects links from poor PR pages and from no relevant texts.
I've seen sites with 30 backlinks having PR 4. But those 30 backlinks where all extremely relevant to the site.
Thanks for the responses! It was more of a curiosity question than anything, I am totally focused on building links from big relevant sites and forums with a high PR as possible and have been since I started. I just wasn't too sure about how PR was worked out exactly and I don't concentrate on getting high PR, I concentrate on getting quality do follow backlinks! Thanks again. P.S. I do have Google toolbar and lots of other SEO add ons and tool bars so I know traffic value and PR etc... of EVERY site I visit.
I don't, I just wanted to know. If you focused on quality, you wouldn't need to do nearly as much work.
What a single back link does for you depends on: 1. The PR of the page that gives you the back link. 2. How many links are on that page. If you get a link from a PR1 page that only has two links going out then this is worth a lot more than from a PR1 page with 10 links going out - the links on this page include internal links (these are spreading the link juice back into the site).
You could have a PR 10 and that wouldn't change your results in the SERPs or the amount of traffic you get. Focusing on your PR is an utter waste of time, it does nothing unless you own a directory.
I am not an expert, but today i read one book with page rank explication. For example: To have a PR3 site you need in theory "500 links from PR1 sites" or "100 links from pr2 sites" or "20 links from pr3 sites". In this logic an PR6 link worth 125(5X5X5) PR3 links and so on. Of course this theory will apply with dofollow attribute and less then 50 links on page and many many other factors.
It's more about quality than quantity dude. For instance if you had one link from google.com pointing to your site, that would have more impact than thousands of links from directory sites. Aim to work on getting quality links ratehr than quantity
