I was wondering if links without the http://www. counts as a link. Like for instance my username webtwist-design.com does that count as a link for google ?

depends on whether it is hyperlinked or not. your username is linking to your profile so you will not get a backlinnk from that. not even from your post where you put the URL as its not hyperlinked either.

In my personal opinion, such links should be discounted. I think that www can be omitted but not http//.

Its like sultanofseo said, it has to be hyperlinked. The simple answer is if you can click it then it counts, if its just text then it doesn't count.

No they don't. Links are created with <a> HTML tag. Without the tag this is just a text.
