I was sitting working at my netbook and I wondered - Do links on forums count as backlinks? Im guessing it would depend on whether the forum system by default adds a do_follow or dont_follow to the link, and I guess what I am asking is - Would a link still count in BBCode tags for example - EXAMPLEDOMAIN.COM Code (markup): and Out of SMF/PHPBB/IPB and VB - which of them adds a do_follow to links which are not in code tags so that they would count as a backlink when a search engine indexed and spidered the page? Thanks guys, -C3NTURY.
centurymeltdown, I don't think so, could be wrong, but it's not inside <a> anchor tags, so it would not count. -BlastFree
Hmm but there is a point there, it might be crawled as a content, however i would advise you not to spam your url in there anyways =) Just post it if you have a good reason of posting it i guess, otherwise forums with signatures are better i guess..
There is nothing like dofollow or dontfollow rel attributes that you can add in your template files. All these Forum scripts comes with No Nofollow (which is dofollow in your terms by default) attributes, it is webmasters who adds Nofollow attribute to their outgoing links like member's signatures and other forum template file internal links. And of course links coming from forums counts as backlinks for sure. There is a lot of "Forum Profile" link building going on these days. Google it out, you'll know
A link is a link. As far as the page is indexed Google takes it into consideration. Just make sure the Google crawler visit your profile, thread, post or whatever. Most popular forums like DigitalPoint get indexed pretty well. For other less known forums you can bookmark your user profile to ensure that Google will notice it
thats it everything covered in this message a link is a link and let google crawl that page where your have your link. yes forum profile link building is what I do it on regular basis for my clients
no it will not be counted as backlink all of the forum scripts are dofollow by default. you can check for a specific forum, all you need to do is to view source and look for rel=nofollow on the external links. or use firefox nodofollow plugin
