Globestar, the short answer to your question is YES. Homepage backlinks are more valuable that sub-pages. However the the more outgoing links on a homepage, the more watered down they are.
All those replies that don't provide a lot of help, a sub page link will probably not give you much traffic from the link its self. However if your interested in how google views it, its just as good as a home page link. I hope this helps.
This can depend on whether or not the webmaster is bleeding link juice from the home page to sub pages. Some of them don't, so you may have a PR5 home page and PR0 Subpages and then the home page PR bleeds NO PR value to the subpages. You can find out by using the SEO quake toolbar and seeing if the header of the page your link will appear on is highlighted in red, this means that the link juice from the home page is NOT going to those subpages and so you are getting a link from the ACTUAL PR of that page and NOT the PR of the home page. Make Sense?
Its not a true. Most sites have good PR in home page and less in inner pages. So if you have links from home page it will be good than inner pages
I think that purely on Page Rank point of view it does not matter. There could be relevancy factor that could matter.
Common scenario : Homepage - high PR :::: Subpages - Lesser PR However, this not true always. What is more important is, quality of link and quality of the page where you are getting link from. I have seen some sites, where the inner page has more PR than the home page itself. I personally prefer getting links from inner pages which rank better, than just home pages. I have had better success rate this way than usually. But again, may be its just me. All success, /G
I would think that getting links to inner pages is valuable in terms of the serps. I see how many of my inner pages are more competitive on the serps and they are more focused traffic than just my homepage which is harder to get on the front page of the serps due to competition. You don't need anywhere as many links to inner pages either so I try to get deep links whenever possible and focus on a select number of pages to get links to. Hope that helps!
Why question the difference? The question is asked as if you can actually control where they come from. Relevancy of the linking page is the most important in my opinion.
when you think about it, a link from a relevant inner page seems in most cases more natural than a homepage link. there are hundred of scenarios where getting ineer page links is "natural", on the other hand most homepage links are somehow paid.. i personally rarely get homepage links, i try to look especially for internal relevant or resources pages.
If you gave me a choice between your home page and another page for a link. I would choose the home page.
