Do internal links count?

    Guys,

I have optimised my site, and am now getting a few high PR links and doing article marketing for lots of links..... It is a new site and already ranking on page 10 (the page was indexed two days ago) for a highly profitable word that adwords people are paying around $1000 a day to advertise..... I am now doing link analysis and have a question.

Most of my competitors have huge sites spanning hundreds of pages..... I notice a lot of their links however are internal links, in the sense that links from other pages on the site linking to that specific page...I assume in this instance, Google doesnt give too much credit to the link?

Advice? What would you guys do?

Part of SEO is how good the internal structure is and the navigation. Getting the right hierarchy of content is important so yes internal links do matter quite a lot, because if you don't treat a page as a valuable page by not linking to it on your own site, then Google won't consider it important for others on its search engine.

What is better though, a PR0 link from internal, or an external PR0 link from an independent IP which is highly relevant.

Every page on your site should link to other pages so your question is not easy to answer. You don't ever need to choose between the two because you can do the internal one so easily it's not ever worth saying which one is best. I would say internal is best to sort out because if you don't link to it from within your own site, then it's hardly a page that you regard as important in Google's eyes.

Internal link structure is an important SEO consideration.

The inbound link from the external site would carry more weight.

The related posts is a good plugin. I also like to link to posts in the actual articles.

the short answer is YES. it's PAGES that pass PAGE rank, not SITES that pass SITE rank.

Having said that, there are now probably so many factors in google's algo, like spread of IPs etc, that even THEY probably don't understand how it works anymore :)

Internal link structure is massively important because any text link will pass PR - an internal page linked from your homepage receives PR from the homepage.

Your internal navigation linking is EXTREAMLY important for new or small sites. In addition, every page within your site should have a link back to the domain url.

And there is a discussion on "Absolute" vs. "Relative" linking that our site is testing now. With this last Google update, Absoulte internal linking will be the way to go.

    Oh
    Absolute linking --- http://www.catanich.com/dallas-internet-marketng.asp

    vs

    Relative linking --- ../search-engine-optimization.asp

This is a big issue on calculating Page Rank. Each page must have a feedback link to the domain url (not the home page).

slightly off topic here, but you also said: [\quote]Most of my competitors have huge sites spanning hundreds of pages....[\quote]

that's another reason your competitors are doing well, they have a lot of relative content on their site, not just loads of internal / external links
