be careful with country related domains, i.e. if you have a .co.uk it will probably work well on google.co.uk, but probably won't appear on google.com That is what I have found anyway.
I have a .info domain, ranks well. It was older domain, already estabolished at one point (PR of 0) , has some domain authority and is one word keyword, which I could not get in .com, .net. or .org. Content, content, content - that is all the matters. Just make sure you don't buy a .info domain that was once blacklisted, than you might have a problem.
TLD doesn't really matter in ranking because it is more like a user preference. Ranking is more on how optimize your site is.
