Hi! I have a query regarding urls and its extensions.
    1) Will examplesite.com/index.html rank higher than examplesite.com/ page.

I was told by a SEO that urls ending index.html get a preference in rankings that the other ones. Not only for home pages but inner pages as well.

    e.g examplesite.com/search-engine-optimization/index.html ranks higher over examplesite.com/search-engine-optimization

Thanks for your help in advance.

Well submitting sitemap.xml will help you more than this.

don't think so pall. only the content matters. you have good content-->users like it-->other sites link it-->>up the rank eventually!!!

There are no logic for such argument. Google knows what home page is, you don't need to tell Google whether it's index.html, home.html or anything.
