We have built a widget at www.giftcard.com that is run in an iframe on other's sites allowing them to sell gift cards directly from their sites, similar to an affiliate program but more embedded. If we have 100 websites place the "widget" on their page iframing to our site, will we get 100 backlinks? or would we need to add a link outside the iframe like this: <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.yoursite.com/iframe/><a href="http://www.yoursite.com/"> Kw1 kw2</a></script> Thanks in advance
see http://www.seroundtable.com/google-iframe-link-14558.html and http://www.highrankings.com/forum/i...med-google-passed-value-from-an-iframed-link/ for good discussion on this topic
It's been confirmed in several SEO portals that Google indexes links within iFrames and follows them so links you place in within the iFrame pass link value. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
Hi Hoex, Sorry to contradict affilorama but the links to SEO tests posted in this thread confirm 2 things: 1) Google will crawl and index the link to http://www.yoursite.com/iframe/ (provided you don't disallow crawling in your robots.txt file for example). 2) However, there is no evidence that the sites that embed your widget will pass any PageRank or "link juice" onto your domain through the iframe. In other words, don't count of iframe widgets to boost your search engine rankings. You'll need to plug a regular link below that to get where you want to be. Cheers.
I agree with onlinemarketr.... also, VERY important, google has penalized site for anchor widgets in the past. GoDaddy was one of them. "site hosted by godaddy" button put in the footer. with a natural backlink and anchor text behind the image search 'godaddy anchor text abuse' and click on the yoast listing - this is right up your alley
