Plenty of method for building links. You should take best methods to get inbound links. For example contextual links are one of the top method.

Link building is must, many millions of traffic holder sites are spending money for getting links.

If you have a strong marketing budget and various on-/offline campaigns at hand for your dating site - then backlinking can be a waste of time. Simply because you get more out of your site with your other efforts. (But even then consider a 'test drive' to maximize your profits.)

    Otherwise backlinking is vital.

I think you should also do link building. Ask question to yourself that submitting articles to EzineArticles, HubPages, GoPages, etc. gets you 3000 visits in a few weeks. Is it bad if you get few more visitors from doing link building?

the best way to build links is to build the best content, so people link to it naturally

if you are too impatient to do this then you must build the links yourself

I agree with norhisham when he says a link is a link regardless if its relevant or not. You must build links to your site.

Backlinks can occur naturally. For example, if your visitors feels that your content is top quality, they can recommend you to their friends and so on. This way you get natural backlinks.

However ranking just with this backlinks is quite impossible, because most of your competitors will optimize for SEO and you aint...

I think submitting articles is done first for traffic with a bonus of backlinking. Social bookmarking or forum posting will build backlinks without as much effort
as writing an article. Backlinking is still very much a necessity.

Why are you thinking that its waist of time no its not like that if you get minimum and quality links from high pr then you don't need to waist your time to increase your links.... and i m sure google will update PR in first term its my personal experience.
    Three Important Things.

    1. Add your link on Blogroll or Homepage
    2. Add your link on Homepage with content
    3. Quality is important Quantity is not important

    I hope you will understand
    Best of Luck.

Yeah you do. Putting out good content is pretty important, but it won't matter if it doesn't get noticed. There are other ways to promote your website, but link building is one of the more foolproof methods.

I would if I were you. More traffic never hurt anyone.

If you're satisfied with the level of traffic you have now though, then it becomes completely up to you.

Smb said it above and I agree with the statement that quality is more important than quantity. One natural link from content can be equal to tons of such bad links as links from blogs' comments, footers and blogrolls.

Assuming you have a business strategy that involves people finding your site on the web, you have to have links out there. Any attention you are getting now that builds links on its own is great, but you may go through periods where this drops and you need to boost the site with your own content (like articles) and your own links. Just don't buy them.

Anyway link building is not waste of time. Some times left you will lose your traffic from article submitting websites, but regular traffic from search engines you will have under your hand.

If you are not smart about it link building can be a waste of time, if you just run around submitting to any site that accepts free links you will probably waste most of the time spent.

Most of the free directories are just PR0 link farms that will be gone in a few months and sell your info to spammers what do you get in return? Spam=waste of time

Running around joining forums and trying to drop links when you don't have any link privileges yet=waste of time

Dropping links in no follow blogs= waste of time

I could go on all day about the thousands of hours I see in wasted SEO tactics It just makes me think Wow,, so many people working to get no where.

Getting real links is not a waste of time it is usually very necessary 99.99 percent of the time. If you just build a site and wait for backlinks to come "naturally"? Good luck with that you better have some real good, material.

Firstly congratulations on getting your site up. My two cents worth, everything I have learn't says build backlinks for authority with the search engines. What others have said regarding good content is also valid.Become the authority. I use article marketing and then use a service such as social poster.com
