Do I really need lots of backlinks?

coolsitz tell me can i count the forum signatures as backlink?
if yes then i have more than 100 links on forums but still pr o. the site is 3 months old

 

bravo i agree for the former and that's too much reading it should be an article for the latter.

u can count them as backlinks according to MSN

 

I don't think Google counts that as a backlink any more. Inner links are backlinks too in terms of gaining points by the way, just not high points. You can do in such a way to give more points to a particular page, like your home page.

I got the formula from some forum, not sure where. It was during my first couple days researching SEO stuff. Was keen on reading stuff quickly at the time and i was all over the web. I did a search to try to find something that was basically the same and i found it here at SEO-gold. This goes much more indepth on the topic.
