Do I really need content on my site.

    Hi guys,

Any advice you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated. I have a ECom site bagspro.com and unfortunately has no real content on any of the main pages. The reason for this is because verbage doesn't really fit in to my layout. I have tried different configurations just to add text content onto my pages but in truth I have yet to find a way to add stuff on without making my site look ugly.

My question here is do i really need text content to improve my serps, and is there a way to add text like say for instance a pop up block or a about this page box that I could add that wouldn't be considered black hat.

    Thanks,

    JerrSun

If that was my site I would start populating the review section describing the products in more detail.

So by adding content through reviews, I would be able to skip content on my main pages?

It would be one way of doing it but you need to make sure to link to the product from the review. So when someone finds your site from the review they can easily bounce across to buy the product. Plus, people like to read details of what they are actually buying.

Content is the most important thing for a site to have.

Can you not install a blog in another folder and use that as a way of driving traffic to your home page?

I guess I could add a blog as a part of my site. I already have a Business travel article section on my site. But I was more concerned about not having any content on my home page. After all, my link building is based on sending ppl to my home page or relevant product group landing pages. Im just worried that not having text on my home page and landing pages will affect my serps. I have no problems with adding blogs or additional articles to my site. I just dont want to clutter up my homepage and product pages with text.

I would throw up some optimized reviews at the bottom, why not?

Not only will content help your SEO, it will give your visitors a reason to stick around longer on your site.

While I have a decent amount of articles related in my niche on my site, I have a blog hosted on my site which is updated regularly, so that new content is put on my site on a regular basis.

Try adding a product reviews section. Also create a blog for the site. This would provide enough content for the visitors and the search engien as well.

I suggest to put contents on the index like introductions to your products. And give more details to each of your product like product description.

Search engines cannot read pictures, you know. You must have text content if you want their spiders to crawl your pages.

you can also add a Block of text on index page for "whats new" "whats hot" etc. that wont be much, but it will be some thing.

Thanks for all the advice. I will see how hard it will be to add a section to all of my major landing pages for "Review of the Day" with keyword rich review.

Out of curiosity, if I add a blog and primarily use rss feeds for like travel related news and industry news, does that still count as content. Or does it need to be original.

Original content would be best, search engines penalize for duplicate
