Do I need a shopping cart to do this?

Hi I want to sell three products on line. And I am going to use a Joomla website.

In the future I may add more categorys and items.

But for now I,m just going to have one category and 3 items.

Can I put buy it now buttons on my site that go to a payment provider page?

Or should I just get a cart system?

    Thanks

you don't need a "cart system" for a few items.

you use a buy button if it is unlikely their going to buy more then one item, otherwise use a add to cart button.

Yes, you can use buy it now buttons. I recommend using the buttons that you can generate in Paypal or use a cart system like Mals-E if you're selling physical products. If you're selling digital products, I highly suggest WAHMcart.

Start right from day one :)

You must use a cart system..and since you are already on Joomla, go for VirtueMart.net (free shopping cart system for Joomla, and most popular one). You never know when your customer base increase from few to hundreds and then to thousands..it will be a nightmere to handle them later..

Yeah. Better you need to get Online store to sell all these products. I would like to suggest AJ Shopping Cart software. It has more user friendly facilities to start your own online store. Or you can get SaaS Services from ZScart, which provides 30 days free trial offer to start your online store.

For only three items you should use paypal or google checkout. Thats definitely the easiest thing to do, plus when you are ready to expand, paypal has a very big list of paypal integrated shopping carts.

I still think that an online store is going over the top for three items. Both Mals-E and WAHMcart work very well with other systems that can manage an online catalog for your site, such as WordPress. Or you can use them with multiple sales-letter type websites.

What benefits does OSCommerce have that the other systems don't? I've used all three systems. Mals and WAHMcart can be used with any front-end system and WAHMcart also includes an autoresponder / sequential autoresponder system.

You want the easiest process from them seeing the product to them having it in their hands. This means use whichever system works best for you. If you are selling digital products, I recommend e-junkie so they can get the product in their hands quickly and the ordering system is super easy. However, if you are selling something that needs to be shipped, OSCommerce is a good cart for processing credit cards as well as taking their shipping information, etc.

yes, wordpress with wp-ecommerce may be a good choice, but I think only wordpress can do the work if you have only 3 products and want to use paypal by putting html code.
