Thanks in advance for all advice!

I am starting a forum and plan to use vBulletin (it seems to be the most popular, and I have had good experiences using a forum based on it).

My biggest concern is the additional work load and cost associated with moderating and maintaining a forum.

Any advice would be much appreciated with regards to the queries below. I know all of these depend on the amount of traffic and participation, however, are you able to assume a typical forum of 5000 members?

Where do I go for profesional moderation services?

What are the typical costs for profesional moderation?

Is it easy to find TUSTWORTHY volunteer moderators?

How many support emails will I have to maintain?

Thanks in advance for your help!
    David.

    You offer professional services Bordello?

And another question - I assume the largest part of professional moderation is done by a script which flags potentially problem posts?

You can get it from BST section of DP ...
Depends on no of hrs required each day!
For a forum with 5000 members ... too easy ..... just choose out of the active forum members
Only one. There is contact us page at bottom of vbulletin forum.
email is to report when forum goes offline & that contact us page is accessible.

Other than that vbulletin is very easy to maintain. there is report post feature, and member group features .... which make it very easy for even single person to handle the forum of size ur mentioning.

Yes you must hire a moderator. Moderators are really important. They will take care of your forum whenever your out. To get a good and trusted moderator, That guy/girl must be long time friend or a subscriber nor a regular forum poster at your forum. And that one must be with the most important attitude of a moderator, being a helpful moderator. Goodluck

You could appoint someone that's active in your site to become a mod.

Of course if you're not paying then you can't expect them to do an amazing job, but for the most part if the person is really interested they'll do a good job. And it's always good to have at least one active mod. even if you can apparently handle things by yourself as you might be asleep one day and some spammers might hit up the forum. And hopefully if your mod. is on they can take care of it.
