    Hello all,

I see offers of "get 1,000's of back-links" and I have about 10 at the moment on my site. How many do we need to get noticed??????

Most of them think that only dofollow(backlinks) will help to get the site on the first page of google. Yesterday I have seen a quote on a site that nofollow links also make our site popular.

    Check it out too

how many link you need depends on your niche, keyword and competition. do some competitior research and see how many backlinks they have using yahoo explorer. given that the quality of backlinks are the same, you will need more backlinks than your competitors to outrank them.

quality of backlinks is more important then the quantity. if your competitor have 1000 backlinks and most of them are junk cheap links, then you will be able to outrank them with lot less backlinks.

    Hello,

It definitely depends what you are trying to rank well for. If you are trying to rank for a keyword such as "dogs" you would need a lot more back links then if you were trying to rank for a keyword like "Pizza in Brooklyn, New York".

    Hope this helps,
    Nick

Right. No follow links will also make your site popular but the problem is it won't pass PR juice to your site.

Add infinity to those, multiply it by 2 and you still won't have enough. :D

    I agree.
Plus it is not all about backlinks.
On site SEO matters a great deal.
I have had sites rank with only a couple of backlinks but very targeted, optimized pages.

Also, sites that you (dofollow) link to matter.
I had one site that I had a hard time moving and when I put a link to an authoritative site on my homepage the site jumped up several pages to the top of page two for a specific phrase.

To be on a safer side, 1000 is surely the better number. Hundred links can also do the trick for you but all of them are supposed to be in a relevant niche.

you need hundreds and hundreds and hundreds
any link is a good link contrary to popular belief that includes nofollow
heres a very simple experiment for you
go to google type in the search term you want to be listed for
    now who is number one
now how many pages does that site have?
    how many backlinks?
    multiply those two figures together
that figure is what you will have to achieve in order to have any chance of beating this site
simplistic and not completely the whole picture but something to go on

    see below :)

yes you need to have back links....but link building is not the only job you should do. You should also take care of the content on your site and make this content nicely “readable” to search engines. Still, backlinks remain to be a critical factor in getting to the page 1.
