    I would like to use php motion on my site but I am currently on a shared host (hostmonster).

    I think I need a dedicated server to run php motion. Is this correct?

    Host monster offer a thing called dedicated IP. Is this a dedicated server?

    Here are the requirements of php motion:

    Servers - Linux/Unix server

    * PHP 4.3 and above (including support of CLI)
    * MySQL database server
    * LAME MP3 Encoder
    * Libogg + Libvorbis
    * Mencoder and also Mplayer
    * FFMpeg-PHP
    * GD Library 2 or higher
    * CGI-BIN
    * Be able to run background processes

    PHP Settings

    * open_basedir = (no value)
    * upload_max_filesize = 100M
    * post_max_size = 100M
    * max_execution_time = 1500
    * session.gc_maxlifetime = 14000
    * safe_mode = off
    * enable_dl = On

    Apache Web Server

    * .htaccess support
    * mod rewrite

    No need for either dedicated server or dedicated IP

    Your hosting service should be able to provide all your PHP motion needs.

    Best check with them, but I think there should be no problem.

    Well,

    If you want those settings to work you will be needing a dedicated server and not a dedicated IP. A Dedicated IP can only redirect you to your domain, or point to it. Dedicated Server is your own server where you can set the settings the way you want, its the hosting we are talking about here. Also, you usually get 2 IP's with your dedicated server account that you will be buying.

    All the best.

    I think you could meet those requirements at bluehost.com.
    Did hostmonster say specifically what they don't support?

    BTW, the main reason to get a dedicated or static IP is because it's required to support SSL for an https website.

    A dedicated IP is nothing more than an IP address which is reserved for a particular domain instead of being shared between several. It's nowhere near a dedicated server.

    Dedicated IPs are good for SEO purposes and are a must if you wish to install an SSL certificate on your site but if you need neither, you can easily do without it.

    if ur site is not involved in business u do not need any IP to work on , lol a dedicated ip is there to protect personal infos via SSH Certificate , if u are going to buy dedi Ip , buy SSL aswell.
