Rules Do I have to make 25 random posts to be able to post my website for sale? Really?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by osolector1, May 17, 2012.

I just joined DP so I could post the sale of my website but it tells me I can't until I have done 25 posts (among other conditions). Am I supposed to just comment or invent things to say on 25 threads so I can qualify to post? I am surprised if that is the case as it seems like just a time penalty. Do i just pick any threads and type 'Cool' or 'you bet' ?
    Thanks for your help.

Posts like "Cool" or "You bet" come under heading of posts made to pad your post count and are subject to infractions.

We want knowledgeable contributing members. :)

I kinda have to agree with the thread starter here. It seems a little excessive and I noticed while trying to meet my "quota" the high amount of silly threads/posts probably from people playing the numbers game as well. It just seems to pollute the board with a bunch on nonsense threads if you ask me.

    "Do you like pizza?"
"Do you smoke when you play games?"
    "Do you drink beer?"

I could go on and on here. That's just looking at the first page of the general chat section.

The idea seems to be that posters should eventually write more sensible, educational, responsible and even inspiring contributions. But most important is that this rule is designed to benefit no one else except us, the DP users ourselves with information that help and guide us in our stay wih DP whatever reason we may have, right?

Absolutely agree, I understand the reasoning behind not allowing someone to join and start trying to buy and sell straight away but surely there's some sort of better authentication process so people don't feel the need to clog up the boards with all those posts in order to legitimately hire someone for a job.

The rules are fine, it's to stop new users coming along, posting something for sale, and never returning. Furthermore, would you really buy something from a brand new member with no DigitalPoint history? It will almost certainly have an adverse effect on your listing success if you were allowed to sell for your first post.

Logic would be, that if you have something of worth to sell- you will also be willing to contribute to the forums. This does not mean you make one line, useless posts- these are likely to lead to infractions and eventual suspensions. Contribute to threads you have knowledge on, and help others.

In this life you get nothing for free- so either accept it or move along would be the best advice anyone can offer you.

Be happy you don't have to pay for the listing unlike WF and BHW where you have to pay $20-$40 to get a single thread up, also where you have to pay for a membership.

To me, most of these 'reasons' just sound contrived and some are specious at best. The way to get folks to participate on your site is by making them WANT to post - as someone wrote" sensible, educational, responsible and even inspiring contributions" (insert icon of eyes rolling here) by having them WANT to visit again and again, by adding VALUE to their digital lives. Believe me, you are not going to force that --- and can't. Posture all you want but it's a forum not a fraternity. And yes, I haven't any doubt that posts are continually submitted to boost count and that folks track their numbers. I''m sure that builds deep loyalty among the subjected.

The point of the prerequisite is to encourage people to not just look at the "Buy, Sell, Trade" part of the forum, and learn as well as share knowledge. :)

In an ideal world, it would be so simple (as you're wishing it). I only wish it was so free of spam and scam, mate. Spend some time looking around DP and other similar forums/market places and you'll see why the rules are in place. Just check the site sales section and you'll see quite a few threads where sellers have had bids from people with 0 posts - or very few - that they have later had to reject, because they turned out to be scammers. Now imagine these people could just go in and post threads at will. There would be hundreds of scams listed. It's not posturing, a fraternity, etc, but just reasonable solution to a real problem.

You're clearly a literate and intelligent person (maybe annoyed at the "requirements"), so it shouldn't be hard for you to reach the 25 posts count in a credible way (and let's face it, 25 posts is nothing if you have the potential to make a good amount of money - which you must believe or you wouldn't be here). A good post history will also go some way in establishing trust with buyers and sellers. (Look at reality - businesses have to try to do that some way to attract customers.) As someone else mentioned, it could be worse - pay to post a thread.

If I were you I'd get my money back.

Oh wait... It doesn't cost anything.

Maybe you should put on your big girl panties, quit whining, and either comply with the guidelines or leave.

    OP it's simple!!!
Some sites charge you a fee to list stuff for sale. DP charges you also, but not by money, instead by contributing worthy posts !!!
That's way better than having to pay a fee. What's so hard about that ??? You expect to just join a site and get all these luxuries at no cost. If so, find another forum. I'm sure you're not being forced to use here!!!!
Gee, the good things ppl complain about.

@robjones: Leave? What and do without such lucid, entertaining, sensible, and mature posts such as yours? Impossible.

@ryan: OK, mate, I hear you. As the Borg say, 'Resistance is....

Yeah, the mature thing to do is wander into a forum and without having invested a minute there expect them to modify the rules to accommodate you.

Find your niche in the community. Ask questions get involved, if you want a successful business you need to be able to network and socialise. Even if you just visit the forums for the purpose of your company. You will find connections that may well be interested in you but dont read the adverts.
