I'm new to Wordpress and I'm wanting to make sure I have all of my settings correct for the search engines. On my general settings, I have my WP address and my blog address as the same (MYSITE.COM). I just left it as the default. I'm just wanting to make sure that I've done it properly due to the fact that I have set up a new page to put my blog on (MYSITE.COM/BLOG). Does that have anything to do with the settings that I'm talking about above? Thanks
Hi, So is wordpress installed in the root of the domain i.e. www.yoursite.com/ or have you installed it in a directory i.e. www.yoursite.com/directory/ ?
Why the heck do you post a comment then ?!?!?! Lyndatreb, if i understand you corrent you want to use Wordpress only on a domain. I mean you don't have a site AND want to add a blog to it? Well, simple choose where you want to install it. -. domain.com -. domain.com/blog/ -. blog.domain.com
It will be much better if you will make your blog url just like this: http://www.yourwebsite.com/yourblog Why? So that if you want to expand your website (like you want to have your own forums) you can still have your domain as a general one (not a blog nor a forum)
Thanks for all the input. Wordpress is installed in the root directory. I made my home page a static page and then set up a new page called "Blog" and changed the settings so all of my posts would go there. I think maybe I'm confusing something here. The way things stand right now, does it sound like I'm safe with leaving the general settings the way they are?
You should change the permalinks settings for better SEO performance and better looks. Set it to %postname%
Based on my experience, I first installed my wordpress blog in mysite.com/blog/ but then later on changed my mind to put my blog in my main domain so I was forced to use 301 redirect instead of moving it from the subdirectory I created. Proper planning at the beginning will save you time. For proper settings and other queries, please visit wordpress.org, almost all your questions will be answered there like permalinks, ping servers, plug-ins etc.
