My webdesign teacher told me about this.
If they paid you for the website, then they paid you for the full content.
They own the website, when they pay you you gave them all rights to it, even if it wasn't clear.

If they would like it remove, I would remove it. But put a Design by: in the code, so they do not actually see it.
If your design is this good, then people who will want your service will go out of their ways to find who design the website.

as said before, I do think it should be agreed upon working on it, they cant force you to keep it.

What I dont think the owners should be able to do is CHANGE it to say it was created by them. I had a designer friend who hated when people would claim his work as their own. If they didnt want to give credit, that was one thing, but claiming it as their own really pissed him off.

They paid for it. They own it. They can do as they please.

    I agree.
If you have agreement to put on your link before the deal then you can ask for more charge but if you don't, I don't think that you should ask for extra charge removing your link.
You're paid to design so I think clients have their rights to decide what on the template

depends on how you were contracted for the work before you started the work. If it says somewhere that the live site will have bottom fotter link that says develoepd by, maintained by, marketing by, SEO by and all that stuff then it must have been agreed to earlier. Since it is work done for hire you dont have a legal right to enforce your link, it is , after all your client's site, not yours, so client decides what to keep and what to drop on the site. Or you can negotiate with him higher money for not putting claim link or lower money or discount if he would let you put link to your website development serviecs site.

It all depends on what the contract says. If there is nothing about the link, then just remove it.

Ask them for some money in exchange of removing the footer link.. You cana lso add your side link as comments in css files if you want to.,.. ALthough i guess these thinsg shluldve been made clear in the contract itself

If it wasn't in the contract then you can't retroactively insist that they keep the link. Telling them that they can remove it for $15, from the customer's perspective, seems cheap and sleazy and doesn't build a good relationship for future business. You can leave your contact info hidden as comment code but I did have a customer question me about that. He had no problem leaving it there after I explained it.

Agree, if you have more fund, and would like to remove, you could contact the designer. Appreciate them will return a good favour
