I pay attention to signature links - but I 'take them with a grain of salt' as it were With all of the signature link selling going on you can no longer assume the signature owner has anything at all to do with the linked site.
I have clicked on some sigs. You have to remember this is a webmaster forum, and most webmasters are more "ad-blind" than the average joe especially if one serves ads on his/her own site.
I got 12 hits on the first day of adding my signature. I also got one enquiry about the product via PM.
Some of the n00bs definitely do. On another forum I gave a link to a FAQ to in reply to a n00bish question and the n00b replied, "Thanks. The first article explains a lot, but the other two are sort of irrelevent" ( referring to my sig links)
Right - I think the more interesting and relevant your post is, the more likely people will check out your site through the sig link - we can all learn a thing or 2 by checking out eachothers websites, so it's a win/win situation
I click them all the time. Mainly to see what other people are doing I have found some good resources and actually have purchased from a few forum members sites.
i also click on signatures when i think that they can be of my use otherwise i let google do the work .
I click signature lines if they sound interesting, or if I'm on a forum which is a close knit community and I'm interested in what a particular person has to say. If it's a huge forum with thousands of members and thousands of posts daily I don't usually take that close an interest, but if it's a smaller board with a few members that are very active, I might be more interested in taking a look, because I feel like I 'know' the members.
Yes, I do click on links in the sig files. Especially if they are relevant to the topic I'm reading. The fact of the matter is on two other forums, I'm a member of, I make sales each and every month. I believe it is one of the best advertisements you can have. Once readers begin to trust your post they are more likely to click on the sig files. I make certain that the sig files are for my own stuff not others. Primarily the reason for this is I have complete control over the content they are going to read. This again speaks of building a relationship and trust with your readers. Ken Leatherman
think of signature links as free ads for your site... so just like ads, it can follow a low click rate hehe
