Like many people here, I have joined several forums and naturally put a sig link for my sites. There are some topics that I've posted that have hundreds of views, but when I look at my stats on my websites, I usually see only 1-2 hits from the topics. Are sig links mostly for search engines or are they helpful for humans too?
I'd say the best benefit truly is for search engines. If you are active on forums with your signature, it's just giving yourself free backlinks!
I rarely click any. I am "signature blind" - I don't even look at them. The only time I look at them, is when I am trying to find out which site, the member is talking about in his posts.
signature link can be count as a back link for your website and also increase visitors towards your website.
People click sig links, I have quite a few links on people's sigs for insurance.. we still get clicks. If your in a webmaster or seo niche you'll likely get more then a few.
Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signature!) There are several points one should take into consideration when trying to build links and traffic from ones signature. Simply putting a link there sometimes is not enough. Seek out threads which are truly relevant to the sites you are pushing and you'll likely do better then if you just make random posts. I run occult sites and my occult links pull in around 5-10 hits a month. When I put in more of a webmastering type link in that link tends to do a bit better. For instance, I've had 5 hits today alone on the first link in my sig (which incidental is related to this thread).
Most people here have something SEO related in their signatures. So yes, I'm clicking from time to time to check some cool site or tool.
I hope so, when i hit the 10 posts mark i'll put in my sig my vblog, if not... backlinks are always welcome.
Actually I do click them - not all the time but if the poster has posted something interesting then I do click just to see what they are up to. I've found some interesting sites that way - and some rubbish ones too!
