I was wondering - having seen the internet marketing environment operate for over 5 years now - what sort of freebies would actually get a positive response?

I have seen Free ebooks, software, scripts, videos, MP3's, DVD's CD's, memberships and more...

What works for you and why?

    Cheers

You have put up a website and is selling something very unique. You know for sure that if people see your product(s) you are selling through your website they would instantly buy them. But the big question remains how can you get people to see your product(s). Keep in mind the more people see your products the more is the chance that they will buy it. Internet research proves that only 1% of the people convert into your customer out of the total people who visit your website. That means that if 100 people visit your website only 1 person is supposed to buy your product(s). So the more people you can get at your website the more change of making sales. Imagine a 1000 people visiting your site everyday and out of that 1000 people considering only 1% buys your product(s) taking a conservative view you can make at least 200 Dollars a day(considering you make 20 dollars per sale), which makes it 6000 dollars a month. Not bad to start off what do you say? But still the big question remains how do you get those 1000 people to view your site. Well here are the ways:

Make a routine for yourself to work at least 30 minutes to 1 hour per day. Now you make the routine in such a way that you cover each and everything that is required for good SEO should be done within that period every one day of the week. Like I have shown in the example below:

    Monday : Submit to Craiglist

Tuesday : Use safelists to send emails

Wednesday : Do some link exchange

Thursday : Submit to free advertising sites

and so on for other days like Friday, Saturday and Sunday

    Thanks.

It is solely depends on your type of audience and cannot be told specific.

    - If your audiences are regular visitors then the free things could work well.
    - If your audiences are webmaster or technical type person then free things do only work if it's special and not a plain or junk ebook. It used to be good but no for these days.

If you are going to give away something be sure it is of "real" value and something people would gladly pay for if you made it for sale. Bring great value to the marketplace with something of some substance and people will surely come.

I guess it really depends on what you are giving away for free...I think people are more aware these days that free really is not free...people
normally bait people with free because they want to sell them something in the end...I would bet more then 95% that signup to anything for
free do not buy, unless it really appeals to them..after all they were their just to get something free. I would think free does not work
as much as it has done in the past, if you signup for anything free, then odds are, you are going to get hit with offers to buy something later.
