Do Free Classifieds Work?

I have tried generating traffic by placing ads in those free classified ad sites without much luck. One, however, gets me traffic: Backpage.com

What other ones have worked for any of you?

posting link in an online classified is one of
the cheapest way, if not free, to get traffic
    on the net.

however, i'm sure you have a secondary email
to receive alot of 'unwanted' mails don't you.

this is the problem, everyone one who post
in those free classifieds doesn't even bother
to look at other posters ads, but they do glance
at the list most of the times just to see where
are their links that they have posted.

if you're lucky enough, they might see yours
if ONLY your headline or sentence has stirred
the trigger for them to click it. (some classified
sites allow you to place image to your link).

ask ourselves this question, what make
us go to that classified site to post our link?

Freeclassifieds are a quick way to get some search engine visits, nothing more. The traffic from them is totally bunk.

But for a new site it's worth submitting to a couple thousand of them for a few months to get your site listed. But beware that google will penalize you if you maintain it for too long.

I did it for a pharamcy site last year. Submitted weekly to about 500 classified sites using submission software. It didn't really generate much traffic, but it sure got the attention of the search engines lol.

Personally, I found it quite appropriate that the thread got spammed. :)

So, this software: The free classifieds option looks good. I might give it a shot if I can raise $100. I just had a couple of clarifications though (since you have used the software): Can this be used any number of times for any number of ads and any number of sites? And, did you actually see an increase in traffic or BLs or orders?

The only concern I had of course, was that auto submissions might be considered a bit SP@Mmy. I mean, it mentions modules that allow you to "submit your ads to forums". So, what does that mean?? They will start a thread for you promoting your product?? :D

Anyway, do you reckon it's worth 100 bucks to buy? If you do, I might give it a shot.

I'm not really sure how the forums component worked, I never tried it.

When it runs, it basically works like a web broswer, loading each site and submitting the link. It can suck up the memory on your computer, especially since you need to run a pop-up blocker that comes with it.

For links I didn't see a big increase. Some people did click through, but not many. But I did see the search engine traffic increasing alot after I started using it.

Now bear in mind this was about a year ago that I did it, so I'm not sure if there's been any major changes. Generally I back away from using things like this software, but I tried it as an experiment and it worked for a pills website.

why does everyone who has this super-terrific way to get web traffic have to spam every forum they find?

Under normal circumstances, Jim would have been banned by now for Spamming this forum. But, with the new "price for neg feedback" in place I doubt if that will actually happen.

I wonder if Mods should start intervening and ban users like these. Shawn, it would also be good if maybe we had a "SPAM" button next to each post. If more than 10 members click on that button, that could raise a red flag for mods to check that post out. Repeat offenders could then be banned by mods. Also, marking a post SPAM wouldn't "cost" anything so it would be like rep .... only free! :D
