do forums make money?i have heard that forums don't make money http://www.netbusinessblog.com/2007/06/19/safe-to-say-forums-dont-make-money/ in what way forums can make money?
Any site with visitors can make money. The adsense usually has a low CTR on forums though because of the huge amount of page views they generate.
forum can make money through adsense and sponsors but you need members first and then you need good quality posts then only its possible for you to make money from the forum
The better majority of forum goers quickly learn to ignore ads, so placement of ads is likely your best defense against such things. I took the heatmaps from Google & vBulletin-FAQ and wrote THIS article if you are interested in the best placements for ads. There are a few things on top of that article that can help prevent Ad Blindess as well. Contrast can work nicely, though is generally an eyesore (an example of contrast would be the ugly text type ads you see up in the top right of Digital Point) Moving ads. Swap the types/styles out once a month or so. The 'change' will cause people to notice them again. Relevance is key in many cases, if you can get contextual ads so much the better, but theme ads can be a nice second. Simply using random ads is the worst you can do though. Try something other then Adsense! Auctionads is nice, as it delivers ebay ads based on keywords, and they pay out at $10 rather then $100. Text Link Ads (from the site of the same name, or sold yourself) can also fit the bill. Another key point to keep in mind is to be as non-intrusive as possible. If your ads are 'in your face' then you'll turn off members and you'll loose your member base and keep guests from registering. Best of luck! Q
Mine does, and eventhough banner ads in the footer are seen as bad, I got $2 for 2 clicks yesterday wooo!! hehe
Having forum or websites need to have the one common ingrediante - traffic. If you have traffic, you can make money by adsense or selling ads.
Mine so far has been making money steadily, but it depends on what your topic is, traffic, and amount of members you have.
Comparison needs indicators to be based upon. I think eCPM is the right indicator to consider in this case. My personal experience says that : - you get more pagevieuws/visit with forum sthough this only happens many months after you launch the forum and get enough members - average CPC is low though not ridiculous - CTR is also much lower than in other sites This results in lower eCPM (this analysis is only true within a given subject/field)
