Do forums make good money?

I have a forum. And was wondering how i place adsense adds on it. And do forums make good money with adsense?

 

You'll get a low CTR from forums but you can make money with adsense, also subscriptions if you can offer a low montly/yearly fee for extra features if it applies to your community.

 

CTR is low in case of forums. So don’t expect too much from your forum until and unless it’s popular.

 

i got a forum with about 200 users and 1100 posts. its a PR3 domain with 450-500 unique visitors a day. i use adsense directly under the first and last post but the ctr sucks (under 1%). i tried many variations of adsense but nothing helped.

i think i will open a blog and copy the content i wrote to it. maybe the ctr will increase.

 

Forums are indeed not the best way to earn money.

 

If its an active forum then you can make money off it . But it takes some good time to make a forum popular and get the things going .

 

Yes some forums make a lot of money like this one. You need a ton of traffic, though.

 

Forums are like everything else, if you can get the traffic you can make money.

 

Forums can definitely make good money - and don't be too worried about the low CTR that is just a reflection of the high number of impressions that you loyal members make - your CTR per visitor will actually be somewhat similar to a normal site which is what really matters.

I personally run a forums that has averaged around $80/day with around 1,900 visitors a day - and I have a fairly good CTR above 3% - so you can definitely make good money with forums.

 

some do some don't, depends of many things - forum popularity, ad placement, ad colours...

 

Even my forums getting .27% ctr make 40+ a day

I am managing forum since 2004 and i think that forums can become a money machine, but AdSense is not the way. Try some relevant affiliate promos similar to forum topics. In my case i have a sports forum and i add sportsbook and casino ads. If it is a webmaster forum add services for webmasters. It also depend how you make your posts. There can be some reviews of services or software and if forums members trust to forum admin you will generate some leads. Also do not forgot to make a newsletter every week to keep members returning. Fresh content is a key .

Agreed, it's all about your visitors. If it's a good niche - and you got traffic, you'll make money. It's just like a regular site...

 

If you have over 10k members expect good amount ....

DP is making like 15k/month so is a good exemple

But it's very hard to achive this

 

They can do from adsence and stuff yes. Also text links can sell pretty well on forums, banner spots ect.. Aslong as you have over 10,000 members you can charge some high prices

 

If you build an interesting established forum, then ofcourse they are money making..
Use PPC, CPA or CPM ads.. Plus you can sell banner/text ads - dont irritate your members with those ads - be nice.

Yup... that makes two of us buddy I guess because most of the visitor is returning visitors (members).

Open a blog or another network site(s) might help I guess.

 

Sell your forums to me if they've low CTR.

Forums do make good money. You have to be creative though to do so.

 

Depending on your forum topic, I would recommend trying Auction Ads (link in sig).

Because you can make them so targeted, you get a much better CTR than adsense.

Of course how much you earn also depends on the subject.
