I have 2 websites on the same topic. And the ads that appear are usually the same. While one brings around 60-80 cents (and sometimes more) per click, the other (forum site) brings only around 6-8 cents(and sometimes less) per click. Now, is this because forum sites bring less $$? Or is it because it is possible to be negatively smartpriced on one site and positively smartpriced on the other one?
^ Not really.. Coz my forum is really new. But the thing is, when I do get clicks, they worth really little on the forum site (despite the same ads are worth really good on the other, non-forum site). The forum is not incorporated into that site, the domains are totally different.
The thing is, is that forums are very hard to get off the ground #1 #2 is it's really hard to have great ad integration so your CTR will be low. And if you are getting low paying clicks it's just your content.
Once your forum takes off it will probably be hard to target your ads to higher paying ads too especially if you have an off topic section. I think there are better ways to earn money with forums, ex selling advertisements along with adsense. Never got involved with a forum yet but I have done some research on them.
from my oppinion, i think a community base site (like forum) will be very hard on first, but the rest will be a lot of fun.
Agreed. CMS ( content management system ) will be a bad idea to generate income from cpc compaigne. Anyway, if advertisers choose to advertise using cost per thousand impression, you will be rich.
You have to think in a broader terms when dealing with a forum. It's not like you have a static site that has a handful of standard sections, like maybe a health site has a section dedicated to "Flu" where they can heavily target information related to that. A forum can have literally thousands of those. Each thread, each post needs to be thought about and how it might be related to by indexing spiders, Adsense spiders, visitors, etc. Generally though CTR will be very low but that's due to the large number of impressions you'll generate from members that are never going to click ads anyway. Another thing, just because it works for one forum doesn't mean it will work on another and what works today may not work tomorrow. Forums are very dynamic and they can change their "personalities" quite often.
