Hello, i'm currently working on a link building campaign, forums, article marketing and blogs. Now i hear more and more about this do follow and no follow business. This may seem like a stupid but credible question. When we talk of do follow and no follow, are we talking with regards to human interface, i:e we can physicall click on the link to follow it back to the source, or are we referencing to google bots etc as at a code level they are unable to access the link. Just wanted to know, otherwise, i'm doing most of my work without really knowing. I also thought that if yahoo had registered the links, they were do follow, can you please confirm or concur. Thanks guys
Actually it is not only for humans.. google bots will treat no follow and do follow links differently. Do follow links will be indexed as a direct backlink... Search Engine Spiders/Web Crawlers don't follow the ones that has a rel of nofollow... they default to follow the rest links... the ones that don't specify "nofollow" Nofollow are for not crawling a link by search engine. Dofollow allow search engine to crawl links. Nofollow tag we can use if we are using a link for reference not for crawl. Both are good for human traffic.
a link that can give you some boost on PR. download donofolow addon for firefox and you can know whether the website is dofollow or nofollow
Currently i use the nofollow plugin that use with firefox but does it has any addon that we can check it is do/nofollow along with the google result?
Nofollow links contain an attribute e.g Normal link (otherwise known as "dofollow") - <a href="http://www.yoursite.com">Click here to go to your site.com</a> Nofollow link <a href="http://www.yoursite.com" rel="nofollow">Click here to go to your site.com</a> The nofollow link is not counted by google so cannot help you get better rankings in google. But it does help in other SE's. Nofollow basically menas that the google crawler reads the nofollow attribute and that instructs it not to go through and check out the site that it is linked to. This is not strictly true but in lamen's terms, is all you need to know.
google don't read those links which has nofollow properties in their anchor tag (<a></a>) except all that links are dofollow Example of Nofollow Link <a href="Link URL" rel="nofollow"> Link Text</a> If don't add that "nofollow" properties then it will be count as dofollow but if you see on browser there not will be shown any difference
So how can we determine quickly if a blog is do follow or not, is a blog defaulted as do follow for most commenting section within a blog.
Thanks for the tip james-covert Here is this add-on for firefox, that highlights the links, or you can just open the source of the page and look for the link manually , as I did before.
