Do Follow Links, No-Follow Links/Blogs.. What are these?

    Hey there,

I am new to the whole webmaster scene, and besides submitting my site and doing some self promotion, i haven't done much more. So, i always see posts about "do follow blogs/links" or "no-follow blogs/links" and i don't know what they are. A explanation would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

in a plain html link, the structure is as follows:

    <a href="http://www.exampleurl.com">text here</a>

if you place a "nofollow" command in the url it tells the search engines not to count that hyperlink as an outgoing (ie backlink) to the site being referenced. literally "don't follow this link." this is what a nofollow link looks like:

    <a href="http://www.exampleurl.com" rel="nofollow">text here</a>

http://www.exampleurl.com now does not receive the "link juice" benefit of the backlink, but however it is still clickable to the user.

many bloggers feel that other bloggers shouldn't be stingy with their outgoing links, and should remove the "nofollow" command that is embedded in plugins such as "Top Commentators." however, once the "nofollow" command is removed, it is like inviting spammers to your site to leave comments to their spam sites for free backlinks. it's a heated debate, and really up to the publisher if they want to allow or disallow nofollows. marketers often seek out "do follow" blogs (that have removed the nofollows) to comment on in order to get free back links.

Yahoo does not pay attention to nofollow like G does. It will still index your site. You can check all of your backlinks with this tool: http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/new/link-checker/ It will tell you the PR and whether or not a particular backlink is do or nofollow.

    Cheers!
