Hey fellow members, I actually have a question. I've seen many people buying do follow list with high PR pages that are guarenteed to increase PR. Also most people want to get links on do follow blogs. Well my question is that will getting backlinks from un relevent niche sites get you penelized by google or will it still boost PR? So lets say you've got a site in the make money online niche and you want to get backlinks from the weight loss, dog niche or any thing else un related to the make money online niche. Will this have a positve effect or negative effect? Thanks in advance
Links from unrelated pages will not help you in any way. They might give a short term boost, but after a few weeks the effect dies down. If you want to get long lasing effect, you need related links. With PR or not is not that important. The most important part: highly related (and dofollow, of course). If they are very related AND have hight PR: That's even better.
you can see my backlink analysis case study and there is one case there, when website has many blog comments backlinks and if you download the full analysis you`ll see that almost all of them are unrelated! (just notice, that I analyzed the website from TOP10 on its targetted keywords)
Unrelated backlinks can help with your link count, but related links can help and bring the opportunity for more traffic.
so how about if you just have a link from a forum site and the only place it is viewable to google is you public profile and not in the actual commenting with the forum?
i disagree..on black forum say link is a link..it can increase ur SERP if link popularity get higher (off course do follow)
Unrelevant link will do you more harm than good when it comes to ranking. For one thing, imagine a keyword you're targeting has more than 1 meaning. For example, cfd is a trading instrument and something in physics. So if you build links from unrelevant sites search engines will not know what meaning you're actually targeting and might show your trading blog in physics search. Secondly, search engines might consider them spam and willl completely discount them. You quite often see good websites with just hundreds of good backlinks outrank websites with thousands and thousand of backlinks. I used to get irrelevant comments from the high PR irrelevant pages, but don't do it anymore as there's no point and just a waste of time.
I've just been analysing a competitor of mine that ranks higher then me. Most of his backlinks are from un related sites and blogs, but still he is higher in the search engines? So this must have some good influence? Or is it just best to limit yourself to get backlinks from ONLY related sites?
unrelated links DEFINITELY help to some degree. you can test this out very quickly by starting a free blog and posting in some completely unrelated dofollow blogs / forums. I do think related links are more important.
So, in the end...Do unrelated backlinks count? Or they don't? Or they do, but not as much as the related ones?
I do not think buy link is a good idea, you know when google notice that it will ban your site. It is really high risk.
I don't see why having a link to your site on a page that seems unrelated would hurt the site? I would figure it would only help, it's a link anyways
I think links always effect PR...The only problem i think is that of buying links that may be not good for your site
You have no control over who or what site links to your site whether it be related, or if it's some not so legit, warez, adult whatever. If they hurt any then your competitor could just post your link on a bunch of these sites. So I don't think it hurts any if it's not related. How much it might help is a good question that would have a number of factors.
To be frank there is nothing harm in getting link from unrelated blogs or forums. Still it counts as a vote.
Simple question - prove it! The actual answer is that what this guy said is completely untrue, and is the same line peddled out by too many people. I did a trial two months ago where I made a new blog and only built UNRELATED NOFOLLOW links to it. Guess what, it ranks on page one for a 40K monthly search volume term now. You are perpetuating myths and simply cannot back it up with evidence. Still not convinced, well would you listen to Rand Fishkin, owner of SEOMoz and the renowned linkscape mozRank engine that analyses more links and ranking factors that you have had hot dinners in your life: Rand Fiskin of SEOMOZ.org on 2nd October, in their company blog: “To be totally honest, I don’t think the content relationship (relevancy) or matching subject matter has much of an impact in the algo right now. Off-topic links, so long as they’re from powerful, trustworthy sources, seem to help just as much as those with topical matches. It may seem weird, but I know I’m far from the only SEO to have observed this phenomenon…..†But hey, I don't care, because those of us who know the truth are just building links rather than blind-fishing for "relevant" links, and are ranking very well.
