I usually leave comments on many social media and web design blogs. Most of them have high Google PR (5-7), and also a pretty decent Alexa Ranking. However almost all of them are NoFollow backlinks in the comments section, and I'm wondering if these provide any value at all to my site? I know I can get traffic from visitors interested who click on my comment, but other than that is there any link value passed?
There are many guesses to the answer to your question because no one knows exactly what Google does on this issue. It looks like the general consensus that it does not pass any link juice to your website but it does make your backlinks look more natural which adds benefits.
Every backlink is a good link. Imo nofollow is just a myth, if it's from a high pr blog with good moderation probably is worth more than a hundred N/A PR backlinks that are dofollow.
Whether it's a dofollow or a nofollow back link,it will provide value in terms of boosting your SERP for your keywords,if keywords are used as anchor text in back links. If you get all nofollow back links,it'd help you in ranking better in search result pages but would not help anything in getting page rank.Dofollow back link is mainly for improving PR.
Hmmm. If this is the case, I have some blogs to comment on. Who cares about PR? SERP is what really matters. Thanks for the hint.
Yes, no-follow links are still great for your website. In fact, google will probably get rid of do/no-follow pretty soon anyways as it's deemed pretty worthless ever since they admitted that no-follow links still get link juice.
How many of the links that you have are no follow and how much are do follow? whats you ranking on google? maybe we can get to a conclusion here.
check this video from the google webmaster chanell Check minute 2:00 he mentions that google WONT take them into consideration. But i guess you can still use them for aditional traffic... I guess.
Google officially says they discount nofollow links entirely --- but I don't really believe them. Also I'm pretty sure they have value in Yahoo & Bing even if I'm unsure about Google. Even if it's true that nofollow links bring no SEO value directly... they may lead to people linking to your site (if you have good content) and they could bring some direct traffic (especially if you comment on related blogs.)
From my personal SEO experience, nofollow backlinks do not help you. They provide no link juice or popularity. Keep it dofollow only.
