Hey guys, I'm just wondering, have any of you ever used and implemented an exit pop up on your site? What are your experiences with using them? Thanks!
I haven't used them but, from my personal experience as someone always on the lookout for a good program, they can be a dual-edged sword. At times they can be really annoying because if you decide youare not interested in a particular product, a pop-up as you're leaving the page is not necessarily going to convince me to stay(especially if they affer and instant reduction in price. Just my view as a buyer's reaction to exit pop-ups.
I've tried it, and eventually decided not to use it. It's a double-edged sword. On one hand it might improve conversions rates, and help retain customers that would've otherwise left. However, when I implemented this, I experienced a negative response from many customers that bought at full price, and were furious when they saw the pop-up. So this won't help customer satisfaction. Another big problem is, that most (if not all) PPC networks, do not allow products that have a pop-up or exit pop. And this is not only limited to PPC networks, PPV, CPM, and other display/placement networks, also disallow exit-pop, which would be a problem for the ones that want to direct link. Of course, you could probably set up a custom link for those, with an exit-pop. Best bet would be to try it yourself. I've seen many vendors going with it, but at the end, for me, the cons outweight the pros.
If you use the right exit strategy it can work well. I don't use discounts as this de-Values your product. If your $47 product can now be bought for $27 why not just use $27 on your main page? I Like to offer a part of the bonus package or a similar freebie on the exit. That way if you miss the initial sale you can get the email address and can followup. I have also used the 'Alternate Method" so when someone exits they are thanked for thier time and taken to an alternative product that may appeal to them. Example: "Thanks for visiting My Website today, I understand that xyz product may not be for you and I again thankyou for your time taking a look. Click cancel and I'll show you something else that you may be able to use successfully." I prefer the FREE Offer and to get the email address but the alternate method works OK as well. Don't stress if you don't get the sale, Try and get the email at least from the visitor, they may buy something completely different from you in the future. Take care ODA
I use it and love it. over 20% of sales are from exit offers. BUT you need to add code so that customers that have purchased at full price do NOT see the offer. give them a cookie Also, create a page that doesnt have the exit offer so affs can use on adwords.
Ofcourse, if visitor gets disturbed by the pop-ups then chances of return gets lower. This is for sure.
I think it worked very well when it was in its infancy but not you see it on almost all landing/sales pages that it gets annoying.
Some works if the exit popup offer a really GREAT deal that the potential buyer cannot ignore. For example, 50% off price! Or $1 trial now!
