I just prefer using windows xp over vista. Why upgrade my system to get windows vista when I can do moreover the same things with my current operating system.
it could only be reason if you didn't understood anything from it! i totally Agree with the above statement!
I don't have the time OR the money to "adapt" to Windows Vista. Moreover that chart is complete BS. I don't use any Windows OS so comparing them is as useful as saying: why would you go with a Honda Civic when the 05 Ford Focus has this and this feature that the 03 Focus didn't have? Can I run KDE4.2 on it? No. Can I run my OSS on it? Most likely not. I don't see what's wrong with that... If I want to run a machine that I paid $900 7 years ago, why the hell shouldn't I? Not everyone can afford to buy a $2,500 machine, let alone Vista and all the software you need. What I love about *nix OS's is the fact that basic technology doesn't have to be expensive. If I buy a tiny little laptop and I'll run Puppy Linux or something that will work on a small computer. I have a 1500 dollar workstation and I choose to run Gentoo. Why? Because Linux is just better from what I've experienced as a developer, web designer and just a plain human being. I'd be thousands of dollars in debt or broke if it wasn't for OSS. Plus open source is soo much better. And if anyone starts saying "You're just sacrificing quality to save a buck..." FUK no! OSS is THE most high quality software I've ever used. I just use what's better. I'm not trying to be a rebel or a hippie just to look cool. If I find something better, call me what you want. I'll use what I want and you can pay out of your ass! Anyways, any windows software I actually need, which is rare, can just run on Wine. SO I've already had the last laugh.
Its the worst windows out there. Very slow in starting. Needlessly accessing hard drive, network sharing center opens after ages. And thats just the tip of the ice berg.
Vista is fine on a reasonable spec PC. Bearing in mind that a PC just deemed reasonable by XP standards, is probably going to run poorly with Vista. I'm pretty sure the same thing happened when I went from Win 98 running on an AMD Duron 800MHz with 256mb RAM to XP. Can't really grumble about performance, especially with hardware being so cheap now, you'd be nuts not to be running at least 4GB RAM and a multi-core processor. Theres a lot of pretty extras on Vista, such as the sidebar which I like but there are some annoyances too like UAC (User Account Control) which is easily turned off. Can't help think that they've moved or changed some things just to distinguish it from XP, not for any practical reason.
Just another thought too..Comaring it to Linux is fine, but also bear in mind that the two operating systems are not entirely alike. Windows has primarily been aimed at the novice end user. The fact that it is so familiar to many PC users is enough alone to keep people buying Windows. Sure, Linux is more efficient and more offers the user more power, but it really is another world for many Windows users. Installing commercially available software and plug and play hardware is not so straight forward and getting help from normal human beings with real-world social skills is pretty scarce in my opinion. I've noticed that whenever i've posted questions on Linux forums, I usually get sarcastic elitist and patronizing three-word answers as if to say "What? didn't you already know that?!?" No, otherwise I wouldn't be asking, would I?!. That in my opinion is the biggest downfall to the Linux argument.
For my vista machine I paid $900, maybe $950 total Core 2 Duo 8200 tray Some ASUS cooler for that ASUS P5QL PRO on P43 chipset (just basic without all that features you will never use) ASUS EAH4850 512 mb ASUS P50Ga power supply for 500 watts ASUS 2014BLT cd-dvd-rw with lightscribe ASUS My Cinema P7131 tv tuner and fm radio (remote unfortunately don't work in Vista though (, but hey this tuner developed in march 2006 and even earlier!!! they just stop it I think) ASUS TA651 case Samsung FDD Samsung HDD for 750 GB with 32 MB cache Samsung 971p (2 years old already, so I don't count it, it was from last PC) Samsung DDR 2 800 2Gb * 2 (4GB total) Believe my 32 bit Vista Ultimate with SP1 flying. System is not toppest in the world, but it's current middle system which allows to run everything fast.
I bought my dual core Toshiba laptop with vista. And vista was overkill for it's hardware... I had to upgrade the ram after 2 months to be able to do some work... And the bloody laptop supports only 2 GBs maximum.. My friend had an even worse situation... he had to remove the vista from his acer laptop and move back to xp because vista was totally unusable...
I understood it better than you can and that's why I said it shows nothing and you must think it's wonderful.
only saints and mad people are not allowed to use VISTA rest are already using! BETTER make a pole for vote... and run it for 2 weeks.. to see which is MOST liked OS!
I haven't tried Vista... looking at all the comments on here, i'm not totally sure that I ever will :s
I recently moved from xp In my opinion Vista is much more faster and for sure secure At least, it is having less vulnerabilities I use it on a 1 gb ram pc with dual core processor and it's really flying
Really Vista is the best operating system.. There are many advanced features in vista when compared to XP.. Initially i felt vista is too slow..But after Increasing my RAM,Vista is really awesome... To enjoy with vista you should have MIN 2GB ram with Core 2 duo processor..
