The problem with vista is it slows down my system (Dell latitude series laptop) that is with 2 gb ram. But when I downgraded to xp, the speed was amazing! Now I am more happy to work with my machine :)

I use Vista on my Quad core machine and I like it way better than either my Mac on XP machines. Afterall, this is my personal opinion. There are some hard core Microsoft haters out there, and nothing would sway their beliefs ;)

I enjoy vista apart from its speed probelm, the market out there sells systems with vista loaded on it but dont realise that the spec there selling it with does not meet its minimum speed and then the customer gets ripped off.

Incorrect. They do it on purpose, so that the customer comes back and complains about the slow speed, then they can 'upgrade' it (add a 1gb stick of ram) for $99999 :p

RAM costs close to nothing today and motherboards usually can handle around 16gb of it. So it's not a problem.

Besides of that 32 bit windows (used mainly cause 64 bit still have lot of incompatibility, not because of vista, but cause of 64 bits) take care of 3-4 gb, not even more. So all ok.

For me Vista is much, much more stable that annoying XP...
In my case there's no BSOD anytime on Vista.

After only 1-2 months XP starts to shut down and display misc. BSOD screens! That's why I really hate Windows XP. But yes, I think that Vista uses much more memory resources than XP.

There is one problem in Vista. As you know, in Windows you have to have root privileges to install software. That's why users usually work under root account and should care of security. But security in Vista is "improved". Thus, it shows you different warning and asks you to confirm each you action when you work as administer. It irritates a little :)

2 things i hate about Vista:

If i want to change my desktop background it asks me ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS? then you click ok, then it says YOU NEED ADMIN PERMISSIONS TO CHANGE YOUR BACKGROUND, then you click ok, then it changes your background. That's retarded. Its a background.

Second, the start menu is TERRIBLE. They actually made it worse. I switched it back to the "old style" and its so much easier to actually find what youre looking for.

    thats my 2cents.

In my opinion Vista is better than XP, if you have fast enough computer.

    PS. Get Linux :)

You can turn off all that permissions of operations as well as ability for applications to change files by itself (for example Quake 4 multiplayer simply may not work) by switching off UAC in Vista.

I switched from XP to Vista SP1 and I'm loving it so far. It seems quite faster than XP for me.

another VISTA lover out here... my older vista (8 months old) got effected by viruses... got too slow.... installed XP... since i am a IE fan, there is a BUG in IE 7, when we open about 10-15 Tabs in IE 7 , it gets stuck, and have to close IE 7 and reopen....

due to this, shifted back to vista... :p and all going well... feeling better than on XP.
All those who need vista should have atleast 2 GB RAM... else obviously u will love xp :)

but i hardly recommend to get up with Vista... if you really want to feel you would definately enjoy it :)

I'm sticking to XP as long as possible. Mainly because I don't want to upgrade my computer with the latest hardware just to run it. I have used Vista and once you get used to the new interface it's actually a lot easier to use.

I setup a new laptop with 2gig ram for a client with Vista and it was using 50% of memory just vista itself.
