I understand that high quality backlinks are the best to get, but I was wondering if a directory page with a PR of 0 has value for my site. I have managed to get a fair number of backlinks from directories, but their pages are mostly PR0. As I understand it, that won't increase my site PR. It also seems that they don't provide traffic. So should I keep submitting to all of them or submit only where I can get on a page with high PR? Otherwise, it seems that I should be spending my time elsewhere. I've also had five directories with high PR say that they will provide reciprocal links with my sites, but two weeks after putting up my links to them, none of them have put up their links back to me. If anyone can suggest any directories that can reliably exchange quality links with a PR1 site, I'd appreciate some suggestions.
All we know is that the toolbar shows PR0. It may be that the directory pages do have PR, but Google refrains from showing it to people like yourself to deter you from PR chasing. It may also be that the directory is quite new, and has gained PR since creation - yet Google hasn't updated the toolbar PR recently enough for you to notice.
Not true. I have PR 4 sites with backlinks only from free directories. If the page your link is on is cached in Google then it has some value.
We can't consider that if the page rank of a site is zero has no value. First we have to consider the backlinks for that directory, If it is good and is been cached by google. Then there is some value for that site and has some value for the directory submission .
It is positive for you to have links to all kind of directories, but no spam and no 3th hand references
All links count, some more some less (PR is not that important unless you want your PR increased) if the page can get crawled and google actually crawls it then a little bit of LINK JUICE is passed get lots of them and you have gotten yourself some considerable LINK JUICE
i'm not sure but I think that once a 3 month the pr are being changed.. The pr is given to the page not to the entire site. if someone says that has a pr3 website his main page has pr3. the other pages might have other pr. Try to find how many backlinks have a page from your site and then you'll see why that page has pr0.
I personally believe judging a directory based on its PR is not a good way. SEO is not limited to PR alone.
Every little bit helps... people really need to get off the PR train because it means very little anymore.
I agree with a lot of posts above. While snowbird has a website with PR4 with links only from directories, I also have some of them with PR3 and only directory links. It's well known that the REAL PR is not an integer but is more like a float. If we consider that it has on 1 decimal digit. We are still saying that PR 0 on toolbar might actually mean 0.1 to 0.9. As you know 0.9 is not all that bad
Agreed. All links count, unless of course they are spam links. Don't be afraid to list yourself on pr0 page, the most important thing to remember is to make sure the page you are on is relevant to your site, this holds more weight than pr and is exactly what the search engines are looking for. As long as you do this then you should be fine.
I submitted all my site as much as I can submit myself and without worry of PR0 or higher PR. I think it will help you create backlink anyway
Exactly! And Yahoo, MSN, and others couldn't care less about PR, which is a uniquely Google thing. I received over 13,000 unique visitors from Yahoo last month, and they don't have a PR measurement. A decent link counts, even if infinitesimally, with or without PR.
I agree with maldives and Jim4767 If a link has pr0 it's not a bad think. It may send you traffic and it's a + for your SEO
Thanks for the responses. For the record, I don't place too much emphasis on PR. I have another small site with 0 PR (don't work on it much). A page on another site with 0 PR linked to my home page. That page went up to 3, and my site went from 0 to 1. But there was no increase in traffic. I'm now wondering about another angle that I haven't read anywhere else. If a directory allows you to submit keywords or title description with the link, I wonder if they will help the keyword positioning of the site within Google, even if the PR from the originating page is 0 and the traffic is nil. Just wondering...
jitendraag and snowbird, if your PR rank is based almost entirely on links from PR0 directories, how many of them did it take? And have they made a difference in the volume of your traffic? Still not trying to make a big deal about PR, just curious. And Jim, are you crediting the volume of your traffic mainly to good links or to something else?
